Google Denies Hangouts Shut Down Rumors
Google has denied rumors associated with the shutdown of Hangouts, according to a tweet by Google’s Scot Johnson, saying that users will be upgraded to Hangout Chats and Meet.
"I run Hangouts and this is pretty shoddy reporting. No decisions made about when Hangouts will be shut down. Hangouts users will be upgraded to Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet. Your source is severely misinformed. You can do better," reads Johnson's tweet, responding to tweet made by 9To5Google - the website which first reported that Google planned to to shut its services sometime in 2020.
Google Hangouts came was released back in 2013 and saw an overhaul in 2017 in the form of business and enterprise-centric apps — Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet.
While Hangouts Chat was meant for easy conversations between the team and the organization. Hangouts Meet was introduced as a video-calling platform for fast, easy and convenient meetings.
Both Hangout Chat and Meet are currently available for web, Android and iOS users.
