LG Stylus 2 To Debut At MWC

LG Electronics said Tuesday it will showcase a new pen-equipped LG Stylus 2 smartphone at next week's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in a bid to diversify its non-flagship models and attract a wider scope of users. Expected to be available in the United States later this year, this sequel to the G4 Stylus features a 5.7-inch HD display and comes with a sensitive and thinner nano-coated pen tip that promises to give a real pen-like feel but also allows for more accuracy when notetaking and drawing compared to a rubber-tipped pen.

LG claims that the LG Stylus 2 works just like using a real pen and memo pad with features like the new Calligraphy Pen font that allows one to write as decoratively as if using a fountain pen. Also new is Pen Keeper, which prevents the stylus from being misplaced by displaying a popup message when the phone is detected as being in motion when the stylus bay is empty. The LG Stylus 2 also features Pen Pop which toggles a popup menu when the stylus is removed for shortcuts to Pop Memo and Pop Scanner.

Only 7.4mm thin and weighing just 145g, the LG Stylus 2 is noticeably thinner and lighter. Its slim design is complemented by a Spin Hairline pattern on the back and metallic frames on all its edges. The smartphone sports a 3,000mAh removable battery and a SD card.

The device will hit shelves in South Korea next month and gradually expand to other markets including North America and Europe.

LG Electronics aims to revitalize its ailing smartphone business by introducing the flagship G5 smartphone in Barcelona.

The company also said earlier this week that it will showcase two budget smartphones at the event, each boasting high-end features like dual screens or three cameras.
