Luxurious Samsung W2018 Flip Phone Launches in China
Samsung Electronics will release latest this month in China the premium W2018 flip phone, estimated to be worth 3 million won ($2,760).
The China-exclusive phone will be launched by China Telecom and it is the 10th anniversary device of the high-end flip-style W Series that first appeared in 2008.
Despite its retro-inspired design, the W2018 is packed with modern technology: it comes equipped with dual 4.2-inch full-HD AMOLED displays, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 256GB of internal storage. It is powered by a 2300mAh battery.
The device also shares features found in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices, such as the virtual assistant Bixby, enabled through a dedicated button, and a fingerprint reader at the rear side of the device.
The phone comes in gold and platinum colors and runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
However, the most impressive feature of the new flip phone is its camera. It features a 12-megapixel rear camera with the widest ever aperture of f1.5 on a smartphone, which allows users to capture sharper images in low light conditions. The camera automatically switches to f2.4 aperture when there is enough light. It also has a 5-megapixel front camera.
It is rumored that the specific camera technology will be also brought to the upcoming Galaxy S9, which is anticipated to be released in February or March.
