New Intel Tablet Processors Coming in 2014
A report discusses Intel's roadmap for future tablet chips, which should appear in the second half of 2014, according to Digitimes.com.
Intel's Cherry Trail and Willow Trail processors for tablets will arrive in the second half of 2014 with initial sample shipments of Cherry Trail to customers expected to commence at the end of 2013, Digitimes said.
The chip will be based on Intel's "Airmont" architecture and the 14-nanometer manufacturing process.
Intel is also expected to discuss more details about the "Silvermont" architecture for tablets and smartphones at IDF 2013.
Intel's new platform for smartphones, dubbed "Merrifield," will be also powering devices by the end of 2013 or early 2014. The Merrifield will have a performance boost of about 50% and a longer battery life compared to Intel's existing smartphone platform Clover Trail+, the report added.
Intel declined to comment.
