Nintendo To Skip E3 Show

Nintendo To Skip E3 Show

Gaming Apr 25,2013 0

Nintendo will not host any large-scale presentations at this years E3 game show, as the company will mainly focus on sofware presentations and will not unveil any new hardware. In the past Nintendo invited reporters, investors and analysts, industry partners, such as software publishers, and distributors who attended E3 to its large-scale presentations.

During the company's financial results briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that new endeavors such as Nintendo Direct will be used instead to deliver the company's messages "more appropriately and effectively".

At E3 this year, Nintendo decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience to announce new information as the company did in the past. Instead, the company plans to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on its software lineup for the U.S. market.

"There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media. Also, I did not speak at last year's presentation, and I am not planning to speak at these events at the E3 show this year either," Iwata said.

In addition, Iwata confirmed that the company does not plan to launch new hardware, and the company's main activity will be to announce and have people experience its software. The company will make it possible for E3 visitors to try new Wii U games immediately.

Nintendo's President also admitted that a lack of compelling titles for the Wii U is hurting sales, and promised to improve the console's lineup this year.

Upcoming titles for the Wii U include a version of the company's fitness series, "Wii Fit U," real-time strategy title "Pikmin 3," and a highly anticipated version of its Zelda franchise.

Iwata said the company will also continue to offer more online content. However, he did not clarify whether the Nintendo games would require a connection.
