Pioneer Introduces Mew Slim Receiver, All-in-one Micro Systems
Pioneer Europe today introduced two new slim AV receivers, the new 6.2-channel VSX S510 and 5.2-channel VSX S310. The company also expanded its micro system range with three new models featuring a built-in Lightning dock and USB port - the X-SMC11, the Bluetooth-enabled X-SMC22 and the X-SMC55 with built-in Wi-Fi, Wireless Direct, AirPlay, DLNA 1.5 certification, vTuner internet radio and access to Spotify Connect.
The 110W per channel VSX-S510 and VSX-S310 AV receivers are equipped with Class D amplification, 4K Ultra HD Pass Through and can connect to an iPod, iPhone or USB drive via a front USB. The networked VSX-S510 - featuring Spotify Connec1 - adds support for iPad and iPad mini, AirPlay, DLNA 1.5, vTuner internet radio, MHL, high-resolution audio file playback, including gapless playback and can be controlled via the Pioneer ControlApp.
The extra channel of the VSX-S510 can be used to drive a single surround back speaker or passive subwoofer.
The VSX-S510 and VSX-S310 also feature Pioneer's original Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC) that measures and analyses the sonic characteristics of the room-speakers combination in order to calibrate and maximise performance specifically for the room. In perfect synergy with MCACC, Phase Control makes sure all sounds arrive at the listening position 'in phase', preventing unwanted distortion of the sound, whereas the Advanced Sound Retriever function improves the quality of compressed 2-channel audio to closely match the original source.
The VSX-S510 offers offers Spotify Connect, a feature that lets users stream their Spotify music to the receiver and enjoy it through their speakers. They will be able to choose music on their mobile device, start streaming and hear high fidelity sound through their audio system.
Connected to a home network, this Windows 8 compatible receiver not only operates as a DLNA client/renderer for music streamed over a home network, but it also receives vTuner internet radio and allows users to wirelessly play back their iPhone, iPod touch and iPad music library via built-in AirPlay technology. With the optionally available AS-BT200 adapter users of the VSX-S510 can also enjoy Bluetooth audio.
The front USB port on both receivers allows direct digital audio playback from iPod, iPhone, including the iPhone 5 and - for the VSX-S510 also iPad and iPad mini.
With HTC Connect, available on the VSX-S510, owners of compatible HTC smartphones (including the new HTC One phone) can stream music content directly to the Pioneer networked-enabled receivers via a wireless connection.
The VSX-S510 features six HDMI inputs, five on the rear and one on the front panel that is MHL 2.0 (Mobile High-Definition Link) compatible. High-definition video can be displayed on an HDTV with multi-channel sound, while also charging the Android device. MHL 2.0 adds support for 3D content, 1080p 60Hz, and faster cell phone charging. The VSX-S310 comes equipped with 4 HDMI inputs.
To meet the popularity of high-resolution music, the VSX-S510 allows playback of high-resolution WAV, FLAC and AIFF files up to 192 kHz/24 bit, and 96 kHz/24 bit for Apple Lossless files, via a USB or network. In addition, this new model provides gapless playback for AIFF, Apple Lossless, WAV and FLAC. Both receivers also support playback of legacy lossy compressed MP3, WMA, and AAC music files.
As content and display resolution quality continue to improve, Pioneer is ready for the next generation 4K Ultra HD resolution video, which has four times the resolution of the current HD 1080p content. Both new slim receivers can pass through 4K video signals to compatible displays for the highest quality video image available.
Pioneer ControlApp - available for the networked VSX-S510 - gives convenient control of inputs, audio adjustments and modes and streaming content from a mobile device. The app is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.apple.com/itunes/. A dedicated app is also available as a free download for Android users via Google Play at play.google.com.
Both the height and the depth of the new slim receivers have been reduced, now being just 85 mm high and 316 mm deep. With their slim-line chassis and sleek looks, the VSX S510 and VSX-310 are not only the perfect visual match for Pioneer's BDP-160 Blu-ray Disc player, they are also easy to install in tight TV cabinets, providing more installation flexibility compared to standard-size AV receivers.
The VSX-S510 and VSX-S310 AV receivers will be available from November 2013 onwards.
After the introduction of a wall-mountable slim micro system with interchangeable colour panels in March, Pioneer now expands its micro system range with three new models.
All three new models integrate a hidden push-out dock with Lightning connector, enabling iPhone 5, 5th generation iPod touch and 7th generation iPod nano users to simply dock their device to enjoy audio. The mobile device will charge at the same time. A USB port allows for a direct digital connection to USB connection capable mobile digital devices. The design also incorporates a vertical CD player with MP3 and WMA compatibility, and features an FM tuner.
The flagship X-SMC55 comes equipped with built-in Wi-Fi and Wireless Direct, which enables users to stream their music from a mobile device to their system virtually anywhere and anytime, without a wireless router. Both AirPlay as well as DLNA v1.5 are supported, which means users can place the micro system literally anywhere in their house and play directly from their Mac, PC or portable device, without cables. Fully embracing the streaming music revolution, the X-SMC55 is Pioneer's first micro system to have access to Spotify Connect as well as internet radio from vTuner.
For more entertainment possibilities, Pioneer's free ControlApp expands control over the X SMC55 directly from the screen of a mobile digital device. The app is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.apple.com/itunes/. A dedicated app is also available as a free download for Android users via Google Play at play.google.com.

By incorporating the new aptX audio coding technology, this micro system offers the highest quality Bluetooth audio possible.
Music sounds clear from two stereo speakers that produce an impressive 40W RMS total power output. All systems feature a clock and timer for musical mornings. Measuring a total of 520 x 218 x 137 mm (WxHxD) and weighing in at a light 3.9kg, their compact design fits neatly in any room.
