A film based on the Gran Turismo PlayStation game is under development, Sony said on Friday. Sony did not provide any further details about the movie, but according to Hollywood news site The Wrap, the Social Network and Fifty Shades of Grey producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti have been linked to the project. Sony executives Elizabeth Cantillon, DeVon Franklin and Hannah Minghella will oversee the project, the report added.

Gran Turismo is one of Sony's most popular franchises. The newest game in the series, Gran Turismo 6, is expected to be released later this year.

An adaptation of the 'Need for Speed' franchise is also due to be released early in 2014.
