Writing Quality Tests - C1 / C2 Error Measurements

We measured the C1 / C2 error rate on the recorded discs we burned at the various supported writing speeds. The software we used is the PleXTools Professional, and particularly the built-in Q-Check utility.

However, the Q-Check functions are not active with the Plextor PX-708A used as a test disc reader, possibly because the drive does not retrieve C2 error information. For this reason, we used the Plextor Premium as a reader for retrieving the error rate information. The charts below illustrate the Q-Check graphs for various CD-R media.

  • Taiyo Yuden 48x recorded at 8x

  • Taiyo Yuden 48x recorded at 16x

  • Taiyo Yuden 48x recorded at 32x

  • Taiyo Yuden 48x recorded at 40x

  • SKC 48x recorded at 40x

  • TDK 48x recorded at 40x

  • Mam 52x recorded at 40x

Below you can see more information about the CD-R media we used in this test.

The results with Taiyo Yuden media are very good for all the supported writing speeds. The C1 error rate is low, and no C2 or CU errors were reported.

Although none of the discs had gave any C2 / CU errors, we could mention that the Mam 52x discs gave the highest amount and level of C1 errors.
