SDK Starts Mass-Production Of Highest Capacity Hard Disk Media
Showa Denko (SDK), the world’s largest independent HD media supplier, has started mass production of 3.5-inch hard disk (HD) media introduced with the new 8 TB hard disk drives (HDD). The new 3.5-inch HD media hold 1100-1300 GB/per disc and use the perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, and are classified as the seventh generation products of the HD media based on the PMR technology.
The company has been also producing 2.5-inch HD media with a capacity of 670 GB/per disk.
Compared with the conventional technology that stores magnetic data on a horizontal plane of the HD media, the PMR technology enables vertical magnetic recording, resulting in a dramatic increase in recording density.
SDK is the world’s largest independent HD media supplier and has about one quarter share of the global market.
