Sharp Introduces First 32-Inch Full HD LCD TV

Sharp Introduces First 32-Inch Full HD LCD TV

Consumer Electronics Dec 14,2006 0

Sharp announced today the launch of the industry's first 32-inch LCD TV supporting full high definition resolution. The new TV features a resolution of 1920 x 1080p and it has built-in digital tuners for terrestrial, BS and 110-degree CS broadcasts. The LCD TV will be available in Japan on December 22, 2006. Street pricing is expected to be around 280,000 yen ($2,385).

Sharp recomnends that the best viewing position of the new LCD TV is just 1.2m.

The LCD panel offers a contrast of 2000:1, while its bright room contrast is 900:1. These contrast specifications are the same as those of the company's "Kameyama Plant No.2 models" (52, 46 and 42-inch) released in October 2006. This new 32-inch LCD panel is manufactured at the sixth-generation (6G) production line of Kameyama Plant No.1.

The color filter is manufactured using photolithography technology, instead of inkjet technology. The luminance is 450 cd/m2. Given the VA (vertical alignment) panel using multi pixel drive technology dubbed MPD, the LCD TV's horizontal and vertical viewing angles reach 176 degrees respectively, and video response speed is 6 ms. Power is 166 W, with annual power consumption estimated to reach 155 kWh per year.

The LCD TV also features a full collection of advanced functions including a "4-wavelength backlight" system with "crimson red" added to standard red (R), green (G) and blue (B), auto luminance control using light sensors and an "1-bit digital amplifier."
