Sony at CEATEC 2012
Sony's new product line-ups will be on display at CEATEC JAPAN 2012 (October 2-6), to be held at Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex in Chiba City.
The Sony booth will center around the cross-device connectivity it offers across its array of mobile products such as Xperia smartphones, new Xperia Tablet and VAIO PCs; its camera lineup incorporating Sony-developed, full-frame 35mm CMOS images sensors; and its 84-inch BRAVIA 4K TV. In addition, Sony will present new ways of enjoying content by combining its mobile products, Blu-ray Disc recorders, and "nasne," networked recorder and media storage device.
Centering on mobile products such as Xperia smartphones, Xperia Tablet and VAIO PCs, Sony will deliver new user experiences by connecting and combining Sony's range of hardware, network services and applications. One of the key examples of this is Sony's One-touch function which enables users to easily enjoy their music across an array of NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled devices by simply touching one device to the other without the need for Bluetooth set-up. Sony is also offering new ways to capture digital pictures through the combination of Xperia smartphones, Xperia Tablet and Sony's digital camera products, by allowing the user to check the image, adjust camera exposure and control their camera shutter wirelessly from their smartphone. Furthermore, Sony will exhibit examples of cross-device connectivity between Xperia Tablet, Blu-ray Disc recorders, and nasne, enabling consumers to enjoy recorded or live TV content on their Xperia Tablet through a home network, or transfer recorded content onto the Xperia Tablet for viewing on the go.
Sony's new 84-inch BRAVIA 4K TV (KD-84X9000) delivers a high-resolution picture on its large screen by incorporating Sony's '4K X-Reality PRO,' super-resolution engine. With the side speaker system also producing powerful sound optimized for the large screen, this new BRAVIA brings an immersive new viewing experience to the home.
Sony's new VAIO line-up incorporates Windows 8 to combine touch operation with high performance. The Surf-Slider design, VAIO Duo 11 hybrid PC can be used as a Tablet, while also enabling detailed input with its digitizer stylus. VAIO Tap 20 is a tabletop PC which can be tilted between desktop and "lay-flat" form factors.
The Duo 11 slider PC is expected to go for about ¥150,000 ($1,930) when it launches in Japan on October 26th, and it'll come with a 1080p display, 1.7GHz Core i5-3317U, 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM and WiMAX.
Sony Tap 20 portable all-in-one will come in three models, which will range from about ¥140,000 ($1,800) up to about ¥180,000 ($2,310) come November 3rd. The main differences being the CPU (1.8GHz Core i3-3217U, 1.7GHz Core i5-3317U or 1.9GHz Core i7-3517U) and the RAM (4GB or 8GB), but all three will feature the same 20-inch 1,600 x 900 display and 1TB hard drive.
Sony's new Xperia-branded tablet, Xperia Tablet S features a splash proof body (IPX4 drip-proof rated), which allows it to be used in areas such as kitchen - even with wet hands - together with various applications and full range of accessories.
Xperia T is the new global flagship model and is equipped with a 13 mega-pixel camera and a 4.6 inch HD Reality display. The Xperia V model is LTE enabled and delivers the highest levels of dust and water resistance in a smartphone. Both the Xperia T and Xperia V also incorporate Sony's "One-touch" function. By simply touching the smartphone to compatible speakers, it instantly establishes a Bluetooth connection enabling users to enjoy their music wirelessly.
Sony's Xperia GX SO-04D is Xi ("crossy") optimized for high-speed data communication, equipped with a high-resolution 4.6 inch display. Adopting an arc design, it provides a close fit and hand-hugging form factor with its slim body of 8.6mm width and matt texture.
The Xperia SX SO-05D is also Xi ("crossy") enabled, weighing approximately 95g with a 9.4mm smart body. In addition to advanced specifications, it also provides localized features such as infrared communication, the "Osaifu-Keitai" mobile wallet service and "One-seg" broadcast reception.
The α99 is the flagship model in Sony's α A-mount camera range. It comes with a full-frame 35mm Exmor CMOS image sensor with 24.3 effective megapixel resolution, and evolved BIONZ image processing engine. The α99 features a Dual AF System that maintains fast and accurate tracking focus thanks to its 19-point phase-detection AF sensor, and a 102-point multi-point focal plane phase-detection AF sensor that copes effortlessly with subjects traversing the focal plane, embedded on the surface of CMOS image sensor.
The Cyber-shot RX1 is a compact digital still camera equipped with a full-frame 35mm CMOS image sensor. It features an integrated lens and camera body design, so that the lens and surface of the image sensor are carefully adjusted down to the micron. The RX1 also reproduces the peripheral parts of the image, while boasting a wide range of photographic sensitivity ranging from ISO 100 to 25600.
Sony's top-of-the-line Handycam NEX-VG900 is an interchangeable lens HD camcorder equipped with a full-frame 35mm Exmor CMOS image sensor. NEX-VG900 offers generous creative options by adopting interchangeable E-mount lenses, movie standard 24p video recording and high quality 1920x1080/60p video recording based on AVCHD Ver 2.0 (progressive) format.
Weighing just 90g, the new HDR-AS15 Action Cam is an ultra-compact, wearable Full HD camcorder. The combination of its Exmor R CMOS image sensor, which assures low-noise footage in almost any light, SteadyShot image stabilization function and an wide 170° viewing angle ensures high picture quality and dynamic video across a wide range of shooting environments.
NEX-5R and NEX-6 incorporate a 16.1 effective megapixels APS-C sized Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor, and Sony's Fast Hybrid AF system, which is ideal for tracking fast-moving subjects. Also bringing Wi-Fi connectivity for the first time to the α range, both models are compatible with Sony's PlayMemories Camera Apps application download service.
PlayMemories Camera Apps is a download service for camera users offering a variety of applications that expand camera functionality. Downloadable applications include "Smart Remote Control" which enables the user to remotely release the camera shutter with their mobile device, and an application that extends the palette for photo adjustment.
Walkman F Series with Android combines Sony's sound technology with device operability. It is equipped with enhanced "Clear Audio" technology, while its headphones newly incorporate "Clear Phase" - an audio technology.
Sony's BDZ-ET2000 Blu-ray Disc recorder includes "Mokuji-de-Jump," a feature that easily detects the specific segment of recorded TV content that viewers want to watch. In addition, it incorporates a "wireless transfer" function that allows users to enjoy recorded TV content outside the home by transferring the content to Xperia Tablet and Xperia smartphones wirelessly.
