At 4 grams per earbud, the Air6 HS is about as close to "wearing nothing" as a semi-in-ear gets. SoundPEATS says the shape was developed using data from over 10,000 ear-canal samples, and in practice the fit is noticeably more secure than earlier semi-in-ear efforts from the brand, with far less need to readjust the buds when yawning or talking — a recurring complaint with older SoundPEATS models. Compared to the outgoing Air5 Lite, the shell geometry has actually changed in a meaningful way: the earpiece now has more of an AirPods-4-style mound, with a straighter bottom edge, a redesigned corner where the stem meets the shell, and a larger speaker grille. The net effect is a grippier, more confidence-inspiring fit that holds up well through cycling, brisk walking, and rapid head shakes without needing readjustment for most ear shapes — a genuine step up in stability over the models it replaces, even though it's still worth taking a moment to seat them correctly, since fit angle has a real, audible effect on bass response with this design.

The build is unmistakably SoundPEATS: hard, glossy plastic, a short curved stem with the brand logo discreetly pressed into each side (finished in gunmetal gray rather than gold on this model), and a construction that feels sturdy and consistent rather than hollow or cheap, despite the modest price. The charging case is compact and matte-textured with an embossed nameplate on the lid, opens cleanly, and holds the earbuds with a firm magnetic grip that keeps them seated securely in transit.

Combined case-and-earbuds weight comes in at roughly 43 grams, genuinely pocketable without adding noticeable bulk. The case's plastic finish feels a little basic for the segment and can be slightly slippery with dry hands, though nothing about it raises actual durability concerns. IPX5 water resistance — an upgrade over the IPX4 rating on the older Air3 Deluxe HS — covers sweat and light rain, making these workout- and commute-safe, though obviously not swim-safe or built for full submersion.

There's no ANC here — a deliberate omission given the open, sealless design, and one that's honestly appropriate rather than a missing checkbox. Passive isolation is minimal, as expected for the form factor: environmental awareness stays high (useful if you want to hear traffic or conversations around you), but it also means the earbuds are competing with ambient noise rather than blocking it out, and some sound leaks out to people nearby at higher volumes. If isolation is a priority for you, this category isn't the right starting point regardless of brand.

Touch controls sit on the outer flat face of the stem and generally respond reliably, though SoundPEATS' own support documentation notes that users should aim for the middle of the control zone with dry hands and may need to find the right tap cadence — a small amount of friction that's fairly common with compact touch surfaces on inexpensive earbuds, but worth knowing going in rather than discovering by accident during a call.

Sound Quality
The Air6 HS uses an unusually sophisticated acoustic design for its price.

This is where individual experience diverges the most, and it's worth digging into why. The 13mm triple-magnet dynamic driver (a single dynamic driver with a PU bio-composite diaphragm sitting between one main and two auxiliary neodymium magnets) genuinely outperforms what you'd expect from a sealless design in this price bracket. According to SoundPEATS' technical documentation, the diaphragm blends the flexibility of polyurethane with the internal-loss and propagation characteristics of bio-cellulose-style natural materials, aiming for deep bass from the PU side alongside warmer, higher-resolution mids and airy highs from the bio-material side. The voice coil uses CCAW (copper-clad aluminum wire) rather than plain copper — a lighter coil lowers the moving mass of the whole vibration system, which in theory means a faster, more precise response and better efficiency, which in turn helps battery life. That triple-magnet arrangement increases magnetic flux density, which in plain terms means a stronger, more controlled driving force behind the diaphragm — lower distortion and a faster transient response than a simpler single-magnet driver would deliver at this size. Bass is punchy and present without a sealed chamber to help it along — a real technical achievement for the form factor — and sub-bass extension has decent depth for something that isn't plugging your ear canal. The midrange is generally full-bodied without being congested: male vocals sound present without drowning in mid-bass bleed, and upper mids and female vocals stay balanced enough to avoid tipping into harshness or shoutiness. Treble has enough lift to preserve detail and air without chasing the crystalline, occasionally fatiguing edge that some pricier in-ear monitors go for.
Where things get genuinely inconsistent is tonality. In some ears the tuning comes across as warm, open, and easygoing — a broad, if not surgically precise, soundstage with decent instrument separation, well suited to pop, jazz, podcasts, and casual listening across long sessions. In others it reads as colder and more analytical in the midrange compared to the notably warmer Air5 Lite it replaces, whose longer-lasting sub-bass and heavier mid-bass gave guitar, piano, and vocals a warmer undertone that the Air6 HS's more neutral tuning doesn't quite match. At higher volumes on certain tracks the tuning can also tip into harshness for some listeners, in which case SoundPEATS' own Clip1 may be the better pick for pure musical fidelity — though even at its least flattering for music, the Air6 HS's tonality still handles spoken word and podcasts well, where full, rich voice reproduction is a genuine strength.
The most likely explanation for that spread is the design itself: because there's no acoustic seal, perceived sound quality is unusually sensitive to exactly how the earbud sits in your ear, and a slightly different fit angle from one person's ears to another's can plausibly produce two very different tonal impressions of the exact same hardware — and hearing itself varies from person to person on top of that. That's a real characteristic of the semi-in-ear category generally, not something unique to SoundPEATS' tuning choices, but it does mean your own mileage may vary more here than it would with a sealed IEM.
The fair middle ground: it's genuinely impressive for a semi-in-ear at this price, but it's not going to convert anyone who's serious about critical listening, and the open design means you're always trading some fidelity for comfort. Against the similarly priced Oppo Enco Buds3, the Air6 HS trades a more even, "middle-of-the-road" frequency balance for a darker, bass-forward signature — the Oppo pulls ahead on vocal clarity and natural-sounding cymbals and drums, while the SoundPEATS handles crowded, busy mixes a bit more cleanly without the occasional messiness the Oppo's tuning can produce.
Bass is the biggest surprise. Semi-in-ear earbuds traditionally struggle with low frequencies because they can't create an acoustic seal. Yet the Air6 HS delivers genuine punch. Mid-bass is strong, energetic, and satisfying. Kick drums carry weight, bass guitars sound full, and electronic tracks maintain impact. Sub-bass extension is surprisingly respectable, though naturally it cannot compete with sealed earbuds. Bass quality is highly dependent on fit. Users with poor fit frequently described bass as weak or nonexistent. Users with a secure fit often praised the low-end performance.
The SoundPEATS Dynamic EQ mode is generally worth leaving on — it meaningfully compensates for the inherent "weak bass" tendency of an unsealed design and is specifically engineered to address that exact issue. This turns out to matter more than it might seem: Dynamic EQ ships off by default, and SoundPEATS' own product documentation confirms that a good portion of complaints about "thin" or "flat" sound are the expected result of listening with it disabled. The company's app firmware (version 0.4.3 as of this writing) specifically applies a +5dB boost around 100Hz when Dynamic EQ is engaged, aimed at producing punchier drums and a fuller low end — which lines up closely with that exact complaint. In other words, a meaningful share of "flat/thin sound" impressions of this earbud may come down to a default-settings issue rather than a hardware limitation, though that still requires successfully getting the app connected in the first place, which isn't guaranteed for everyone.

LDAC support is present for Android users wanting higher-resolution streaming (Android 8.0 or later is required; iOS is limited to AAC, since Apple's platform doesn't support LDAC at all), transmitting at up to 990 kbps — roughly three times the bitrate ceiling of standard SBC or AAC. One real limitation worth flagging: LDAC and Spatial Audio can't be active at the same time, so you'll need to pick one depending on whether resolution or soundstage width matters more for a given listening session. Neither aptX HD nor aptX Lossless is supported, which won't matter to most people but is worth knowing if you're already invested in a Qualcomm aptX-based device chain.
Calls and Media
Each earbud carries a dual-microphone array (four microphones total across both earbuds) paired with AI-driven ENC (environmental noise cancellation) processing for calls. In practice, that setup does a genuinely good job on higher-frequency background noise and wind — wind handling in particular is consistently strong, with ambient noise not drowning out speech even in moderately noisy conditions. The weak point is the user's own voice: it tends to come through thin or "tinny" regardless of the environment, and darker, lower-frequency background sounds can bleed through more than higher-pitched ones. So calls are usable and the person on the other end will hear you clearly enough, but don't expect natural-sounding vocal timbre — this is a case where the semi-in-ear design's proximity to (rather than seal against) the ear canal likely limits how much the mic array can compensate.
Video and gaming performance is a genuine highlight. Lip-sync holds up flawlessly on iPhone straight out of the box, and while Android playback can occasionally drift out of sync on apps like YouTube, enabling Game Mode (toggleable from the app or directly on the earbuds) reliably corrects it by reducing latency. In fast-paced mobile games like Call of Duty Mobile, sound effects — gunshots, explosions — land with real impact without becoming peaky or fatiguing, and directional audio cues give a workable sense of where the action is happening around you. For a $40 pair of earbuds without a dedicated low-latency gaming chipset, this is better than it has any right to be.
Battery Life and Connectivity
This is the Air6 HS's clearest generational leap, and arguably the single biggest reason to choose it over its own siblings. It rates for up to 9 hours per charge on the earbuds themselves (measured using AAC codec at 60% volume) — nearly double the 5 hours of the outgoing Air5 Lite — with the 500mAh charging case pushing total combined playtime to roughly 45 hours across three full recharges of the earbuds. Worth noting: that 9-hour figure assumes AAC, not LDAC — switching to LDAC's higher bitrate streaming will noticeably shorten runtime, by roughly 4 hours off single-charge playtime when engaged continuously, and higher listening volumes will also draw the battery down faster regardless of codec.

Charging itself is quick and practical: the earbuds reach full charge from empty in about 45 minutes, and the case takes roughly 1 hour 36 minutes for a full charge via its USB-C port. The standout feature here is fast charging — a 10-minute top-up in the case delivers roughly 3 hours of playback, which neither the Air5 Lite nor the Air3 Deluxe HS offered, making this a genuine practical advantage the Air6 HS holds over its own cheaper siblings, not just over competitors. SoundPEATS also notes in its documentation that, like most lithium-based batteries, leaving the earbuds uncharged for extended periods can lead to degradation, self-discharge, or aging, and recommends periodic charging and storage at roughly 50% capacity if the earbuds will sit unused for a while — standard lithium battery hygiene advice, but worth following if these end up as a backup pair.

Bluetooth 6.0 brings improved connection stability and power efficiency over the previous generation, and dual-device multipoint lets you stay linked to, say, a phone and a laptop simultaneously without manually re-pairing (switching between the two devices requires pausing playback on one before resuming on the other, rather than fully automatic switching). The connection is consistently stable with a practical range and no random dropouts in daily indoor use, though SoundPEATS' own troubleshooting documentation notes — as with any Bluetooth device — that proximity to routers, microwaves, and other 2.4GHz electronics, as well as dense outdoor RF environments like subways or heavy traffic, can cause interference.
