Verbatim delivers industry's first 4x-speed DVD+RW media

Verbatim delivers industry's first 4x-speed DVD+RW media

General Interest Jul 9,2003 0

Verbatim Corporation announced today that it will begin shipping its new DataLifePlus® 4x DVD+RW media in August. Certified to write and rewrite at 1x to 4x speeds, the 4.7GB media incorporates a new proprietary recording layer technology that provides accurate recording at high speeds and noise-free playback. At 4X speed, the fastest recording speed of any current ReWriteable DVD format, users can record 120 minutes of video or 4.7GB of data in approximately 15 minutes. Verbatim DataLifePlus 4x DVD+RW media is compatible with the Sony DRU-510A 4X DVD+RW drive as well as announced drives from BenQ, Philips, Ricoh and others that support 4x +RW write/rewrite speeds. Verbatim will showcase its new 4x DVD+RW media at DV Expo East, Booth #544, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City this week.

With the ability to provide recording speeds of up to 4x (equivalent to 36x CD-R performance), and Verbatim's reputation for quality, end users can be confident that Verbatim's new DVD+RW media provides optimum recording at the full rated speed of today's higher-performance +RW drives.

With a capacity of 4.7GB, 1,000 rewrites, a write speed of 4x and the ability to easily append data, Verbatim 4x DVD+RW media is also ideal for PC backups in home and business environments.

Verbatim ReWriteable DVD discs are manufactured with a proprietary process based on the Advanced Super Eutectic Recording Layer(TM) (Advanced-SERL) technology developed by Mitsubishi® Chemical Corporation, Verbatim's parent company. Fine-tuned to enable reliable, noise-free recording and rewriting at up to 4x speed, SERL technology extends the capabilities of proven phase-change optical recording. By combining these technologies with precision stamper and precision molding technologies during the manufacturing process, Verbatim 4x DVD+RW media provides a high level of stability during storage and playback.

Verbatim and MCC are original members of the DVD+RW Alliance that developed the DVD+RW format. Executive members of the DVD+RW Alliance include Dell, Hewlett-Packard Company, MCC/Verbatim, Philips Electronics, Ricoh Company Ltd., Sony Corporation, Thomson Multimedia and Yamaha Corporation.

Pricing, Availability

Verbatim DataLifePlus 4x DVD+RW media is expected to have a street price of $5.99 and will be available in August through authorized resellers and the Verbatim web site. The new media will be packaged in multi-pack jewel cases. Verbatim backs the quality of its complete line of DataLifePlus DVD media with a lifetime warranty.
