Vodafone Japan has announced the joint development with Sharp Corporation of a mobile phone equipped with an ultra-high resolution 2.4-inch VGA liquid crystal display (LCD). Vodafone K.K. will announce further details of this new mobile phone in the near future. VGA LCDs have four times the resolution of current QVGA (Quarter Video Graphics Array: 240 x 320 pixels) LCDs, making it possible to reproduce visuals and render small characters with more beauty and clarity than before.

A prototype with the VGA LCD will be displayed by Sharp Corporation at 3GSM World Congress 2006.
