New Netbook Models Arrive Next Month

Following the netbook parade, companies such as Asus, BenQ, LG, MSI, Mouse Computer, Samsung and Toshiba announced their new models in this new mainstream category.



Asus N10
Designed around Intel's Atom N270 (1.6GHz) processor, the Asus N10 is the company's high-end netbook and sports a 10.2" 1,024x600 res monitor, comes with a NVIDIA GeForce 9300M graphics card and with any of several Microsoft OSs, including XP Home, Vista Home Basic, Vista Home Premium, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate.

It also has a 160, 250,or 320 GB SATA HDD, DDR2 667 MHz memories up to 2,048 MB and a 3-cell or 6-cell battery. It will be able to connect wirelessly via Bluetooth V2.0+EDR (optional) and to the Internet through Wi-Fi 802.11b/g or 802.11 a/b/g/n.

It also includes a Built-in 1.3 M Pixel Video camera (optional) and an external super-multi optical drive. The dimensions are 27.6 (W) x 19.5 (D) x 2.99-3.71 (H) cm and weights 1.40 kg (with 3-cell battery).

It will be launched in the U.S., Europe and Asia later in October, but no prices have been announced yet.

BenQ Joybook Lite U1
The new Joybook Lite U1netbook packs 10.1" display at 1,024 x 600 res, Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 1.3 megapixel camera, 4-in-1 memory card reader, either Windows XP Home or Linux, 3-cell battery, and 5400rpm hard drive.

The Joybook Lite U1 will hit the shelves from this October and retail for $470.

LG X110
The X110 is powered by the Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor and comes with Wireless 802.11b/g connectivity embedded. Other specs includes 10" WSVGA screen, 80,120 or 160GB of hard drive, 512MB or 1GB of memory, SDHC card slot, VGA, Ethernet, 3 USB ports, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Basic.

The X110 will come in black, pink or silver and prices will be set somewhere in the $560 to $700 range.

MSI Wind U100
This netbook comes with Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz Processor, Windows XP Home installed, 512MB or 1GB DDR2 667 System Memory , 10" 1024x600 res LCD Panel, 80GB SATA HDD, 1.3M or 0.3M Webcam, 4-in-1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MSpro), Built-in 10/100 LAN, Built-in 802.11b/g WLAN Card, Bluetooth Supported (optional) , 3 USB2.0 Ports and 3 or 6 cells Li-Ion Battery Pack.

The dimensions are 260(L) X 180(D) X 19-31.5(H)mm and weights 1.0Kg with a 3 cell battery.

MSI Wind U100 comes in black, white, red or pink, and prices start from $499.

Mouse Computer LB-G1000
The latest member of Mouse Computer netbook for next month - the LB-G1000 - packs a 10.2" LCD screen at 1,024 x 600 res, Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz) processor, 1 GB of RAM, 160GB of Serial-ATA hard drive, 6cell battery and runs on Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

The LB-G1000 also features SD card / MMC / memory stick (PRO) slot, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, three USB port, and integrated 1.3 Mpix web camera module.

The price (estimated) is around $560.

Samsung NC10
The NC10 features a 10.2" LED screen with a WSVGA resolution (1,024x600), an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz CPU, 80GB to 160GB HDD, 3 USB ports and Wifi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0(optional), 1.3Mpix webcamera, 6 cell battery (8 hours), and Windows XP Home, weighing just 1.33kg (on 6 cell battery ).

The Samsung NC10 will launch in October 2008. The expected selling price is up to €415.

Toshiba NB100
It features an 8.9" 1024x600 res LCD screen , an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 120GB of HDD. It also comes with a 0.3Mpix camera, Wifi, and either Windows XP or Linux.

The netbook will include 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi as well as an Ethernet port, 3 USB ports will be able to charge connected USB devices even when the netbook is in sleep mode thanks to Toshiba's software, and its weight is less than 2.2lbs.

It will come in October in three colors: Cosmic Black, Champagne Gold, and Bright Silver, and will cost around €330. The company hasn't announced plans for a North American launch.
