PLDS Displays Full Range of Smart Optical Disc Drives at Computex

PLDS Displays Full Range of Smart Optical Disc Drives at Computex

Optical Storage Jun 2,2009 0

Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions Corporation showcases its smart optical disc drives and innovative features at Computex 2009. PLDS is highlighting their latest products, including Lite-On Top-Load DVD-ROM, the Lite-On 24X DVD-RW with PLDS patented LabelTag and Smart-Erase technologies, and solid state drive.

PLDS will also showcase other internal and external DVD-RW and a lineup of blu-ray disc drives as well.

PLDS now introduces a stylish Top-load DVD-ROM with brand-new ID design to meet today’s customer needs- lightweight and mobile.

In order to show Lite-On eTDU DVD-ROM’s unique features, it outfits with top-load loading method, instead of normal tray loading method, and uses a female compact as the design concept to draw young and fashionable women’s attentions.

Other than style and portable design, Lite-On eTDU DVD-ROM offers four different color options: Fancy Red, Mystic Blue, Natural White, and Classic Black.

PLDS also announced a new generation DVD writer to deliver a maximum write speed of 24X on select DVD media. This 24X writer also includes patented LabelTag and Smart-Erase technologies – unique labeling and data erasing features for DVDs and CDs.

LabelTag is a 100% PLDS patented feature that allows users to create a circular label on the data side of a DVD±R disc. When burning the data, users can add text and image that will be printed directly behind the data in the same session, and on normal recording speed.

Using LabelTag means a cost-effective way for labeling DVD±R discs without flipping the disc or using additional software. There is no special media required. LabelTag works with all standard DVD±R discs.

A new feature called Smart-Erase will be added to give users the ability to permanently erase the content of CD-R and DVD±R (DL) discs. Data that the user no longer wants can be permanently erased without big efforts like breaking the disc. Smart-Erase has been developed by PLDS and also implemented in the future bundled NERO software package.

Smart-Erase overwrites the original data on a disc with random meaningless characters so that the original data can no longer be read by any drive.

PLDS also introduced 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch solid state drives with Serial ATA II standard interface and write speeds of up to 85MB/s and read speeds up to 200MB/s. The new SSDs are now available in 32G, 64GB and 128GB capacities.
