New Pioneer BDR-PR1M Blu-ray Burner Promises High Quality Recordings on 100GB Discs

New Pioneer BDR-PR1M Blu-ray Burner Promises High Quality Recordings on 100GB Discs

Optical Storage Sep 26,2012 0

Pioneer has designed the new BDR-PR1M and BDR-PR1MA BDXL drives to offer businesses a reliable solution for their long-term archival needs using BDXL (100GB) recordable media. The new drives suppport burning of data in high-quality 100GB BDXL recordable discs at a speed of 4x CLV maximum, in order to ensure accurate and reliable recording.

Specifically, the drives have been designed to offer optimum results with a new series of BDXL discs designed for long-term storage, made by Mitsubishi Kagaku Media. The 100GB BD-R BDXL discs have been designed following the quality quidelines of the Optical Archive Alliance Group (OPARG,) formed by Pioneer, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media and Victor Advanced Media. The group plans to promote high-quality data archival solutions that conform to the guidelines of the Association of Image and Information Management, Japan (JIIMA.)

Tests based on the Arrhenius acceleration model showed that the new 100GB BD-R BDXL discs have an estimated lifetime of more than 50 years when they are stored in an environment with a relative humidity of 50% and a temperature of 25 degrees C.
Both the BDR-PR1M and BDR-PR1MA BDXL burners share the same technical characteristics; they support up to 4x write for all BD discs, 6x for DVD and 16x for CD. Their main difference is that the BDR-PR1M can be used to check the quality of a recorded disc, right after burning. The function is compatible with all the supported media (CD/DVD/BD.) With Blu-ray discs, the included softare will offer Burst Error and RSER (Random Error Symbol Error) measurements, both essential for the evaluation of the quality of a disc.

In addition, the drives have been designed to be extremely furable to dust. Compared to the company's previous "BDR-207 Series" burners, the new series is three times more durabile to dust and also features a stronger tray mechanism.

The drives will be available early November in Japan for about 220,000 yen (BDR-PR1M) and 110 000 yen (BDR-PR1MA.)
