The New York Times today reported that the NSA has created "back doors" into Huawei's telecommunications networks for the purpose of collecting information on networking hardware. The NSA also monitored communications of the company's executives and also searched for links between Huawei and the People's Liberation Army. NSA also wanted to have access to computer and telephone networking equipment that Huawei was selling to other countries so that it could monitor and search through both computer and telephone networks, the report added, citing documents obtained by The New York Times and Der Spiegel from Edward Snowden.



Speaking to Reuters, Huawei defended is independence.

"If the actions in the report are true, Huawei condemns such activities that invaded and infiltrated into our internal corporate network and monitored our communications," Huawei's global cyber security officer, John Suffolk, told Reuters.

"Corporate networks are under constant probe and attack from different sources - such is the status quo in today's digital age," said Suffolk, saying it was very successful in 145 countries.

He added that Huawei does not build 'back doors'.

The U.S. Pentagon said last year that a large number of cyberattacks against US targets appeared to be originating from the Chinese government.

In 2012, the US government had also said that Huawei's networking equipment posed a national security risk, something that caused the company to partiallyretreat from operating in the US market.
