Twitter Unveils Instant Timeline, More Features

Twitter Unveils Instant Timeline, More Features

Enterprise & IT Nov 12,2014 0

Twitter Chief Executive Officer Dick Costolo today said the company will unveil products to attract new users, including the Instant Timeline, which will allow you to see important Tweets without having to first follow people.

Speaking at the company’s first analyst day in San Francisco, Costolo said that instant timeline would "remove all that friction for new users." The product will let new users see what’s going on on the site without having to first follow people.

He also said that more than 500 million people come to Twitter each month without logging in and that tweets get 185 billion impressions each quarter.

Sometime in the first half of next year, Twitter will also allow you to record, edit and share your own videos within Twitter, alongside short looping Vine videos.

Twitter is exploring ways to surface relevant Tweets so the content that is interesting to you is easy to discover – whether you stay on Twitter all day or visit for a few minutes – while still preserving the real-time nature of the platform.

Twitter is also experimenting with better ways to give you a snapshot of what’s happening. It will use information like who you follow and what you engage with to surface highlights of what you missed and show those to you as soon as you log back in or come back to the app.

Several updates are also coming to Direct Messages, aimed at making it easy to take a public conversation private. The first of these was announced today and will begin rolling out next week: the ability to share and discuss Tweets natively and privately via Direct Messages.
