Pioneer Releases Solid-state Drive

Pioneer Releases Solid-state Drive

PC components Jan 16,2015 0

Pioneer is well-know for its high-end audio-visual, optical and car navigation systems, but it seems that a product such as a consumer Solid-state Drive (SSD) still fits into the company's brand strategy. The Japanese company has announced the Pioneer APS-Sp1 series of SSDs, available in Asian market, at least for now.

Obviously an OEM product, such as the one released by AMD (Radeon R7 SSD), the APS-SP1 is available in capacities of 128/256GB. It is based on the marvell 88SS918X controller and not the latest 88SS9189 model, and supports S.M.A.R.T., NCQ, APM, TRIM and DevSleep.

The drive uses Toshiba's 19nm NAND and its official specifications indicate a maximum sequential read speed of up to 540MB/s, sequential writes of 345MB/s (128GB model) and 430 MB/s for the larger variation.

The SSD is also labeled as more than 75TBW (Total Bytes Written), which is quite high for a consumer product.
