At Microsoft Convergence 2015, Microsoft on Tuesday announced a partnership with Ford to help expand the automaker's connected car services. Ford Motor Co. will expand connected services for customers around the world with the creation of the Ford Service Delivery Network, powered by the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform. Ford and Lincoln owners will benefit from new connectivity services that keep them better informed and in control of their vehicles at all times. Building the cloud-based Ford Service Delivery Network on the Azure platform enables Ford to bring new connected features to market, scale up global availability and provide flexibility for future customer offerings.

Among the features that Ford plans to offer later this year through its new Service Delivery Network is the ability to automatically update its new Sync 3 infotainment system wirelessly.

Ford's cloud-based service will enable the company to gather more data about how owners use their vehicles. That data that Ford acquires wirelessly through the cloud could be used to remotely diagnose mechanical problems or alert owners and dealers on scheduled maintenance. It could also provide insurers with information about vehicle usage and owners' driving habits.
