DxOMark Praises iPhone XR's Single Lens Camera Performance
Camera ratings website DxOMark compared iPhone XR with the Google Pixel 2 and the iPhone X in terms of single camera performance, and concluded that Apple's iPhone XR is the best single-camera smartphone.
The publication has put the three smartphones under details testing under various camera settings and lighting conditions, and awarded the iPhone XR with 103 points in the photo stills and 96 points in the video category, with a total tally of 101 points.
According to their report, the iPhone XR is able to capture good amount of details and offer a wide dynamic range, thanks to automatic HDR mode. The colors were found to be quite vibrant, with fewer artifacts, and “very usable” night shots. The white balance is found to be highly accurate in all lighting conditions. DxOMark further added that iPhone XR has the perfect balance between noise suppression and detail preservation.
On the other hand, the iPhone XR did not perform that well in portrait shooting tests, since the device only relies on Apple’s software algorithms for bokeh and zoom effects.
The iPhone XR is armed with a 12MP (f/1.8) rear camera and a 7MP (f/2.2) selfie camera. DxOMark said that the overall image quality captured using this smartphone is comparable to the more expensive iPhone XS and XS Max, which have identical cameras.
However, Google's Pixel 3 smartphone is notably missing from test.
