Cal-Comp expects growing shipments of CD/DVD printers
According to DigiTimes, Cal-Comp Electronics on August 23 introduced a CD/DVD printer, a self-developed product that can directly print text, graphics and logos onto four areas (top, bottom, right and left) of CD-R and DVD-R/+R discs.
Cal-Comp has obtained ODM orders for the CD/DVD printer from four clients, including US-based Primera Technology, a leading developer/manufacturer of CD/DVD duplication and printing equipment, and is negotiating with five to six potential clients. Primera sells the CD/DVD printer at US$139.95 in the US market.
In addition to enterprises, institutions, including hospitals, churches and schools, are also target users of the new product, Cal-Comp indicated. Casio launched CD/DVD printers earlier, but Cal-Comp's products are lower in price by about 30%, Cal-Comp pointed out.
Cal-Comp expects its monthly shipments of CD/DVD printers to keep increasing from 20,000-30,000 printers currently to 50,000 units in December and further to 100,000 next year.
Cal-Comp may seek cooperation with Taiwanese makers of optical disc drives for bundle sales of its CD/DVD printers. The company will launch the product in the Taiwan market in September...
