BenQ DW822A Double Layer Upgradeable Firmware

Thank you for purchasing the BenQ DW822A!

As announced previously, a firmware to upgrade the DW822A to support Double Layer writing was scheduled for release on 9/30/2004. A firmware switch tool download has now been made available, which allows the DW822A to switch between writing DVD+R/RW and DVD+R Double Layer, or alternatively DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW (which are as per the drives standard specification).

Due to an EPROM space limitation, the Double Layer writing codes cannot currently be fully integrated with the existing firmwares DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW codes, and so a separate second firmware version has had to be created. The downloadable switch tool, by using two separate firmware versions, allows users to switch the drives writing format between either DVD+R/RW and DVD+R Double Layer, or DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW. The switch between the two writing format options can be performed as many times as desired.

A single firmware version integrating DVD+R Double Layer, DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW is still currently under development, and will be made available at a later date. Until such time as the single firmware solution is released, we hope that the currently available switch tool meets all your requirements and does not prove too inconvenient to use.

As always, should you have any queries or concerns please contact the BenQ support team for assistance. (DVDSupport@BenQ.com)
