Both, the A.C. Ryan AluBoxDuoLAN and the Akasa Integral LAN, are using the Ximeta NDAS System. So they are trying to be fast and affordable. Are they?

The thing that impresses me the most about the A.C.Ryan AluBoxDuo LAN is the manual and the depths it goes into, even a novice to computer hardware could set-up the A.C.Ryan AluBoxDuo LAN. With one or two minor exceptions the manual is faultless and the software guides you through the procedures smoothly.

The ACRyan AluBox is a very nice addition to the already crowded market of external storage devices. You can choose your own setup, make a choice out of three colors and a couple of different versions. ACRyan has made a beautiful storage device, but the more powerful the hard drive, the warmer it gets. The AluBox has no internal fan so it does get a bit hot in there. I was using a Raptor harddrive and had no problems whatsoever. But if you compare the Raport harddrive to my 500gb maxtor hdd, it doesn't get as warm. Installation was easy, the box is small and stackable, so it's definitely a good contestant if you are looking for a new external casing for your hard drives.

Over the years notebooks have dropped significantly in price and according to recent market data from research firm IDC notebooks are on course to take the lead over desktops by 2011. Notebooks have become more powerful but one of the biggest problems is still the relatively short battery life. Firms like Samsung are working on this problem by developing fuel cells which will give your notebook a battery life of several days/weeks but it will still take a few more years before fuel cells will be commercially available.

The A.C. Ryan AluBoxTFX is an external hard drive enclosure that allows the user to implement an IDE or SATA hard drive, utilizing the new eSATA connection for SATA drives, as well as USB 2.0 for SATA or IDE drives. And the TFX? That means Tool Free Experience which is A.C. Ryan's way of saying that the enclosure is completely tool-less in design.

The RyanPower2 is a step in the right direction for A.C.Ryan, it's very silent, provides enough juice to keep your system stable and features a handy (slightly flawed) cabling system. If they can work out the small kinks in the cable we'd recommend it straight away, but as it stands we have some reservations about the CableFREE quality and implementation.
