Today on hand, we have the newest member of the X4 family; the 9350e. This CPU is a quad core offering with 2GHz core clock. It's designed for a power efficient quad core system. Let's take a look and see how it compares to the X3 and the Athlon 4850e. While it's beyond us, AMD really has big plans in energy efficient computing. This is where the X4 9350 fits into the picture; part of the same line that the Athlon 4850e we tested fits into as well.

There doesn't seem to be too much special with this particular silicon. For the same price there are too many other processor choices that offer better performance in every other area - an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 is virtually the same price (and probably less following the recent price cuts) and offers oodles more performance, and many of our readers can testify to building a very quiet PCs based on this CPU.

The main participants are AMD Phenom X3 8450/8750 and Phenom X4 9550/9850 on one hand, and Core 2 Duo 4300/4400/4500/4600/4700 (the entire E4x00 family) as well as the new Core 2 Duo E7200 on the other hand. No deep analytical conclusions this time. This article is to help users make a choice.

Last time we tested RADEON HD 4850 in games. Now we got hold of the higher-end HD 4870 with GDDR5 memory. Even though it has the same architecture and the same number of processing units, we decided to compare it to GeForce GTX 260, its competitor in terms of price.

The AMD Phenom faced a fairly rocky start, but the guys in green are trucking forward and have started releasing new processors into the wild. These new chips are of a different stepping, and feature fixes for many of the identified issues. Today were are looking at such a processor, checking to see if these early problems have been truly been fixed.

Not long before RADEON HD 4800 series was announced, NVIDIA cut GeForce 9800 GTX prices from 299 to 199 USD and launched the overclocked 9800 GTX+ for 229 USD. Today we shall examine this new card from ATI (AMD) that has scared NVIDIA so much. We'll examine not only the reference card, but also four cards from AMD partners, which are essentially copies of the reference card.

Overall, I think that the X4 9350e and 9150e are a very welcome addition. AMD's Phenom processors are generally pretty power hungy, so it is good to have some more efficient models to choose from. As we've seen, it can be a pretty potent chip when combined with multi-core friendly applications. Its low TDP, four cores and decent performance make it a great choice for an HTPC or an everyday desktop PC for an environmentally conscious multitasker.

While we have already examined a few motherboards on AMD 780G, some performance matters were not covered. For example, operation in the Hybrid CrossFire mode and decoding of HD video. To be more exact, they were waiting in the wings for a traditional "personal" review of the chipset. Now we finally publish it.

A week ago we looked at the brand-new ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card under Linux. This graphics card launch was unlike any in ATI's history where with the introduction of a brand new product generation, Linux users were greeted by same-day Linux support -- both through their proprietary fglrx driver and with the open-source xf86-video-ati driver. In addition, some of the board partners are opting to put Tux on their product packaging and shipping the Linux drivers on their product CDs. As we had also exclusively shared, AMD will soon be approaching a feature parity between the Windows and Linux drivers. Today we're publishing our complete review of the new ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB as well as delivering additional benchmarks from the Radeon HD 4850 under Linux, of course.

AMD is launching a three-pronged attack on the desktop CPU space today, with the introduction of three new quad-core Phenom X4 processors. One of the processors, the new 2.6GHz Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition, is AMD's latest flagship desktop CPU. The other two, however, are somewhat surprising "green", low-power quad-cores dubbed the Phenom X4 9350e (2.0GHz) and Phenom X4 9150e (1.8GHz). With its Black Edition branding, it should be obvious to the power user among you that the Phenom X4 9950 BE is targeted squarely at enthusiasts and overclockers.
