What did M17x say to M15x- ?Honey, I?ve shrunk the kids.? Bad jokes aside, M11x is Alienware?s new baby laptop and it certainly looks like it will be a worthy successor to the family. I saw it first at TechEd in Dubai last week and instantly fell in love. Luckily Dell had one available for review and I picked it up the very next day. In a nutshell, the M11x looks and behaves exactly like you?d expect an Alienware laptop to- except that its really tiny in size. Think of it as a netbook on steroids. Our review unit came packaged in a white box with the power adapter and some DVDs, but expect full Alienware treatment when you buy the retail package. One thing that confused us was the inclusion of DVDs in the package yet no external optical drive. Considering that this is a gaming notebook and you?d probably end up buying most of your games on a DVD, may that is something Alienware should include in the packaging. Also helpful would be a wireless mouse as gaming on a trackpad isn?t ideal- but every gamer has their weapon of choice so we?ll let the exclusion of a mouse slide.

While enthusiasts scramble to find the coin to upgrade their systems, Alienware has provided an all inclusive option for those in the market for an entire rig, loaded with some of the fastest parts available. Yesterday, Alienware announced the launch of five new configurations, consisting of all new Area 51, Aurora, and M15x gaming systems. Although each option brings something new to the table, we had the chance to check out the Aurora ALX featuring a Core i7 975 processor, X58 microATX motherboard, and two ATI Radeon HD 5870s running in CrossFire mode. If you crave cutting edge technology, then you've come to the right place. Read on as we take a quick look at the Aurora ALX to see just how fast it really is...

Today we look at the new M15x from Alienware - they are one of the first companies to introduce Intels Core-i7 architecture in the mobile marketplace. Back that up with an impressive graphics processor from Nvidia and the new Intel PM55 chipset and we have a very interesting and theoretically capable product.

Alienware proudly released their TactX keyboard and mouse into the US with the UK to shortly follow. DriverHeaven received a production pair and obviously, the TactX name implies a focus on cunning ingenuity and precision, designed to appeal to serious gamers and others who realize it takes great peripherals in addition to a great computer to make an awesome gaming ecosystem. At DriverHeaven we can appreciate that environment and we?ll see if the Alienware TactX keyboard and mouse can secure a tactical advantage within it.

Gaming notebooks are an odd breed of machine that tends to be much more expensive than what you could get a higher performance desktop for. However, anyone who has tried to lug a decked out full tower desktop gaming machine to a LAN party can tell you, sometimes giving up performance for portability isn't such a bad thing.

By incorporating the all-out performance of CrossFireX graphics and quad-core processing, the M17 delivers an impressive feature set at an aggressive price point. Gaming is where the M17 really shines, and it makes an able job of it with two ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 GPUs in a CrossFireX configuration. As a result, this monstrous desktop replacement runs modern games at respectable frame rates. Unpredictably, it goes without saying that M17's battery lasts for around 90 minutes, so it'll spend most of its life tethered to a wall. The M17 is definitely worth considering if you're a gamer on a budget, but get carried away with the options and you'll easily walk away with a £3450 bill.

We recently spent some time with the Alienware m15x and the end result was the fastest 15 inch laptop we have ever tested. Today we look at the bigger brother, the Area 51 m17x which is marketed as a high powered gaming desktop replacement. So what goodies have we inside? How does a 2.8ghz Extreme Edition processor and two 8800 GTX M in Sli sound?

Alienware have always produced some of the sleekist sexiest laptops known to geekdom and with their latest M15x this tradition is set to continue. There is no doubt in my mind by looking at the sensual curves of the Alienware that they have crafted something rather special.

For years Alienware has been producing machines that cater to gamers and enthusiasts desires, coupling some of the industry's most radical designs with top of the line PC hardware. So when Alienware introduced the Area-51 m15x we were obviously keen to check it out. Our review sample came configured with the new Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 "Penryn XE" mobile processor and a GeForce 8800M GTX (512MB) graphics card. In short, this is the combination of the fastest possible mobile CPU and the fastest mobile GPU out there. Of course, this won't come cheap as the retail value of our review sample was $4770.

When you get right down to it, the Alienware Area 51 m15x is solid, but only marginally groundbreaking. There are a number of little things and touches which might help make the m15x stand out, mainly in terms of the adjustable colour schemes and the overall look and feel of the excellent keyboard, but for each one there's also a drawback. Besides, adjustable colour profiles may look fancy, but are functionally redundant. Still, niggles and nags aside the performance and style on offer here is very good, even if you do have to pay a premium. Gaming notebooks are an odd creature in that they aren't ever really intended to be notebooks as much as they desktop replacements. Even then, this is slightly more portable as a 15.4" rather than a 17".

As a founding father in what's still considered a niche market, Alienware offers a range of custom notebooks and PCs, culminating with the Area-51. Built with gaming in mind, Alienware recently overhauled their flagship lineup to keep up with this ever evolving segment and sent us their Area-51 ALX, a water-cooled powerhouse sporting a quad-core processor and dual-GPUs. But it takes more than a spec sheet to impress us, and at $7K, we're expecting an out-of-this-world ride. Did Alienware oblige?
