Biostar made quite some turbulence with its "T-Series" of motherboards. Accessible, but high-quality motherboards truly made a "boom" on the Intel platform. They also had a considerable reputation for their AMD-based boards, one of which we have under the scope this time - TA690G motherboard with an AM2 socket. MicroATX boards are generally hampered with a bad layout, but we can only congratulate Biostar engineers, since they did the best layout we have seen on a microATX board so far. With low price and great features, this tiny board proved to be great choice even for enthusiasts.

The stock performance I got out of the TA690G was certainly impressive. The 690G and SB600 leads to a budget multimedia machine or workstation without cutting any corners. This board should definitely be on your must-consider list for anyone tight on cash.

The two single largest features of the AMD 690G and nVIDIA GeForce 7050PV chipsets are native HDMI output and High Definition Content Protection (HDCP). Both chipsets are currently AMD only affairs, but with the extremely competitive pricing of AMD's Socket AM2 chips it's the perfect opportunity to build that small home theatre PC you've always wanted to have. After all it would be nice to watch all those illegally downloaded bit torrent movies on something larger than a computer monitor. If you're going to rip movies, you might as well watch them in HD, in full surround sound, and get the best bang for your buck. ;-)

On the whole, this little motherboard comes with a lot of what you need to make a killer HTPC with the least possible investment. The Biostar TA690G AM2 has the all important HDMI output, the AMD 690G supports HDCP, and even an S-video TV-output is available. Talk about the multimedia options. The only caveat being that just one digital, and one analog option can be used and any time... so if you're hoping for concurrent DVI, Analog, HDMI, S-Video output you're not going to get that.

If you are building a HTPC from scratch you have a ton of options to choose from. It really is a pain picking out all of the components and making sure they are all compatible. Well Geeks.com can help you out with that as they have a bunch of motherboard and CPU combo's that are perfect for any application, not to mention they will save you a good bit on money. They were nice enough to send us their Biostar VIA K8M800 motherboard with Athlon 64 3000+ CPU combo.

The Biostar V7603GS21 V-Ranger is based on NVIDIA's GeForce 7600 GS but comes at a higher memory clock. In addition to that Biostar added some changes to the PCB to allow software to change the GPU and memory voltages, which allows much better overclocking of the card. In our testing we could increase the core clock by 63% and the memory clock by 20% which made the card play in a completely different performance league.

At a price of $77 bucks online, the Biostar TForce 550 board is targeted towards the mainstream segment of the market and is a good buy for those wanting an inexpensive non-SLI motherboard. The performance isn't as good as the bigger brother nForce 590 SLI, but it's not meant to be. Considering the layout of the board, the 24-pin power connector is forced to be in that position. Positives of the board include plenty of expansion room for add-on cards and the ability to use 6 USB 2.0 devices without the use of a bracket.

We're going to be realistic with our expectations here, for Biostar's P4M890-M7 motherboard is best suited to the corporate world and those of you looking to build a simple computer on a very small budget. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor is arguably the best processor on the market as of this writting, and the Biostar P4M890-M7 provides a very cost effect platform to build a simple PC from.

The Biostar E-Gate 7600GS is a ground breaking video card but not because of the hardware, but because of the software that it comes with. The Biostar V-Ranger software is the first of its kind and we saw from the overclocking section that the ability to increase memory and core voltage has its advantages, being able to do it so easily from software is just the icing on the cake.

What's it like to overclock a videocard with full control over the voltage fed to the Geforce 7600GS GPU, and GDDR2 memory? Pretty darn cool! You can play it safe and overclock with the default voltage settings (for GPU/memory) of course, but the real fun happens when you open up a tool called the "V-Ranger" and key in some pretty serious voltage adjustments. There is enough room to manoeuvrer with the voltage values, that mainstream and hard core overclocking enthusiasts alike will be satisfied... again, all from the comfort of your Windows XP desktop.

The Biostar TForce 590 SLI motherboard is an excellent purchase choice for those wanting a Socket AM2 platform for their next computer. The hype surrounding the new Intel Core2 CPUs means that most people wanting the high-end will want to go that route, as a Core2 Duo CPU is faster in most respects than the equivalently priced AM2 CPU.

Biostar brings us one of the first nForce 680i SLI motherboards to make it into our labs. The TF680i SLI Deluxe comes with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from an enthusiast board and then some. Has NVIDIA pulled through with the new nForce 680i SLI? You'll have to find out inside.

In this review PCSTATS will be testing out the new Biostar iDEQ 250N Mini PC barebones system. The iDEQ 250N is a socket AM2 AMD Athlon64 platform which is based on nVIDIA's extremely popular GeForce 6100 and nForce 410 series chipsets. It will accommodate up to 4GB of DDR2-533/667/800 memory, and like all small form factor PCs its expansion capabilities are limited to two devices. In this case, Biostar certainly picked the best of the bunch. It's iDEQ 250N can support one PCI Express x16 videocard and one 32-bit PCI card. The Geforce 6100 chipset gives away one other hidden talent to this small form factor barebones system... onboard Geforce 6-series graphics come standard. On the list of critical features, the usual suspects are all checked off.

This is the second 7300GT I have reviewed in as many months and since the last was a DDRII model, I was expecting better performance out of the DDRIII model. Not only was the memory faster but the core also comes clocked higher out of the box. Despite this elevated expectation, the Biostar Sigma Gate 7300GT 256MB DDRIII never let me down in the slightest bit.

In this review, PCSTATS is testing the Biostar TForce P965 Deluxe motherboard. This board is based on Intel's P965 Northbridge and ICH8 Southbridge chipsets. PCSTATS will show you both Pentium D and Core 2 Duo performance so you get an idea of what to expect when running an Intel P965 Express based motherboard. With Intel phasing out IDE, Biostar address the lack of native IDE channels by integrating a separate IDE controller onto the Tforce P965. Other integrated goodies on this full sized ATX board include Gigabit LAN,7.1 channel high definition Intel Azalia audio, a flurry of USB2.0 jacks, and expansion slots. For the tweakersout there, Biostar also equips this board with hand power and reset buttons right on the PCB!
