Compro Technology is the leading company to develop and market PC graphics and multimedia products. With highly motivated and experienced engineers, innovation is the main focus at Compro. Throughout the years Compro has put a high focus on high-end TV cards and USB boxes with superior picture quality and powerful features. Including since some years a whole new digital TV product line from PCI digital TV cards, USB digital TV boxes to the most convenient hybrid digital and analog TV cards. With the VideoMate TV Gold Plus II card we got a decent analog TV and FM tuner with a full scale of recording features at an excellent price tag.

After spending hundreds of pounds on your top-notch new PC and an equally expensive monitor, you want to make the most of it. Rather than splitting your cash on a TV as well, why not use a TV tuner? Well today I have the Compro VideoMate T750 which will hopefully prove why.

This is the heart of the newest VideoMate device. It contains the brains, chipsets and conversion electronics to make everything show up on the monitor. With the ability to handle both NTSC and PAL outputs, this device will work anywhere in the world, even when you are traveling. This already makes the V600 a step above most other contenders on the market since they generally only work well with one type of signal. Compro has also greatly enhanced the resolution that the display will work at. Usually you can consider yourself fortunate if you can get a device to display at 1024 resolution, but this latest little gem can handle display outputs of up to 1680x1050! Of course this is a widescreen format, so those without this luxury item can still get a display output of 1600x1200. Very impressive indeed!

The T100 built up a channel list OK the first time ComproDTV2 ran, and we were able to surf between all channels without a problem. Opening all the subwindows using PIP and a different channel for each window caused some dramas, however. With each subwindow opened, performance within each window dropped substantially. The Compro website does state that for each window displayed, extra CPU power is needed, but the system we used should have been fine...possibly you need a VERY strong signal if you?re going down this path, or better signal caching.

It's time for us to take a look at another product from Compro, indeed another TV tuner, the VideoMate H900. However, this time around there are a few differences. Firstly, the H900 is a PCI card rather than a USB tuner. Secondly, it's an analogue tuner.

Compro Videomate TV Gold Plus II is good choice for casual users who want to turn there PC into a multimedia moster. Installation is easy and so is the software. The Noise Reduction and the Video Smoothing technologies allow the increase in audio quality and better looking video and we also like the Timeshifting and Power up functionality...
