Cowon's A2 is a highly competent all round media player. It has excellent battery life, its build quality is supreme, it is packed with as many features as you can shake a USB memory stick at, and it has very good all-round file format support. However, it faces stiff and cheaper competition...

Bringing true innovation to a sector as intensely competitive as MP3 players is a difficult thing to do. Mostly, companies satisfy themselves with trying to outdo each other on the style front. Others focus on sound quality above all else, and there are one or two who just chuck as many features at their players as possible and then sell them at seemingly suicidal prices.

The Cowon iAUDIO X5 is great for any audio junkie as it incorporates BBE Sound technology for great playback and is as feature filled as you'd get for a PMP of this size.

The Cowon iAudio X5 is in a sticky situation. As an MP3 player, the X5 has a lot going for it. Think Apple iPod photo with video capabilities and you get the idea. The problem here is that with its video capabilities, the X5 falls into a different product category where it doesn't really belong; with portable media players. Look past its video performance though and buy the X5 for its true calling - high quality audio...
