When it comes to innovation in the computer world, Gigabyte has really stood up to the plate with this videocard. The GV-3D1 is the first PCI Express videocard on the market that has two GeForce 6600GT cores on one PCB, and is SLI ready (with compatible motherboard) right out of the box. If you're interested in the Gigabyte GV-3D1 you'd better have a big tidy case as the card is quite long. GeForce 6600GT videocards usually don't run too hot but when you put two of them together on the same PCB heat is definitely an issue!

Like all Gigabyte motherboards, the GA-K8N Ultra-SLI is very easy to use and novice users shouldn't have a problem installing this motherboard. The layout is extremely user friendly and it seems like the Gigabyte engineers spent a lot of time trying to make everything perfect.

The GA-8I915P Dual Graphic is a novel idea from Gigabyte but sadly it doesn't quite work as well Gigabyte intended it to. The all important SLi bridge is missing out of the box, so even with the special drivers, SLi isn't possible unless you can acquire one elsewhere.

Gigabyte's N411 is the latest multimedia notebook to catch the widescreen fever. Splashed in creamy white, the slim package packs a speedy 1.6GHz (Dothan) Intel Pentium M processor, a 14-inch glare type WXGA display and a pair of pretty loud tweeters. All signs point to a pretty decent mobile office and cinema station.

We've never seen a board this well equipped before! Included are two Gigabit NIC's (neither of which run on the PCI bus), an additional four-port SATA RAID controller which is capable of running RAID 5, three IEEE 1394b ports, four SATA II ports, an onboard 7.1 audio codec, dual BIOS', and a PCI 802.11g wireless network card for good measure! Overall the Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI performed very well in the whole slew of benchmarks that we ran. It was slightly slower than the rest of the boards in SYSmark2004, and showed some memory bandwidth pinching, but everything else was pretty close.

The 3D1 doesn't quite match a single 6800GT when the settings are maxed out and doesn't offer any further upgrade potential. It will also limit you in the future to using Gigabyte motherboards, which could prove to be too restrictive in the future considering the investment. But if you've already decided on buying a 6600GT based SLi system, the Gigabyte 3D1 bundle makes a lot of sense. It will save you money on a standard 6600GT set-up, is effective and also will reduce system noise and increased stability over a two card solution.

Gigabyte's 3D1 is an interesting product based on nVidia's SLI technology. While all other manufacturers implementing SLI have done it using two separate cards and bridging them together, Gigabyte decided to skip the two cards process and make one card with two cores and connect them internally.

The GA-K8NXP-SLI oozes of being an enthusiast's motherboard, and it shows throughout, from the thoughtful packaging which doubles as a test bed for the board through to the comprehensive set of overclocking features available in the BIOS. Performance is also generally on a par with other nForce4 boards we've seen, and the whole system was rock-solid stable throughout. The appearance of Gigabyte initiatives such as DPS and Dual BIOS add to that feeling of powerful stability, even in a worst case scenario such as a BIOS failure or power surge.

After spending some time with Gigabyte's 3D Cooler Ultra GT, it's hard (name aside perhaps) to fault it. The manual is good, the bundle contains everything you need, installation is easy with all of the retaining clips easily labelled, and most of all its performance under high load is most impressive. Add to that the nifty looks and addition of an LED, and you have a real winner on your hands.

Gigabyte's GA-K8NXP-SLI can be summed up in just two lines and that is a motherboard designed by a vendor who is renowned to give you the very best features fused together with the industry's highest performing enthusiast chipset. For one, this NVIDIA nForce4 SLI motherboard has been decked with enough highlights that it is hard for any others to rival it.

Before I even touch on the real-world feasibility of the 3D1, I have to say this - The technology is cool. No matter how logically you try to look at it, the fact that you have a single video card with the power of two cores is simply drool-worthy, even more so when you imagine the potential of doing this with higher-end GPUs like the 6800GT or (heaven forbid, considering the cooling solution and power you'd require) Ultra.
