Well, we're finally here. First, the short of it - is this a good product? Yes, but. It features high quality components, good quality cabling, a quiet, intuitive design, fairly stable voltage rails, and almost the same amount of connectors found on the recently reviewed BFG ES800 - a much more expensive and robust unit. But, I feel that this power supply is over-rated in terms of wattage. The performance is just as indicative of this as the ratings chart is - in effect, I would feel much, much more confident calling this unit a sober 500w, than an eager 650w.

So who should buy this power supply? Or better yet who needs this power supply? If you're new to computers and you want a stable entry level power supply for a computer system that you plan to build with mid range components then there is no reason not to consider this power supply. If you are planning on delving into the home theater PC arena then this power supply should be near the top of your list. With its silent operation a home theater is the place where this product will be right at home.

GP-PS550BP is a very simple 550 W power supply manufactured by GlacialPower with all sales handled by GlacialTech, featuring passive PFC and no extra fancy features, coming with a MSRP of only USD 65. We completely disassembled this unit to take a look. Is this a good buy? Let's see.

Some of the players in the power supply industry have made a big name for themselves with a product line full of sparkle, or ultra glamorous design. Others take a different approach and offer the best product they can design at the best price possible. GlacialPower is such a company, and Benchmark Reviews was fortunate enough to shine the light on their GP-PS550BP Real Power 550W Power Supply Unit with series of ripple and regulation tests.

GlacialPower is a new player on the power supply circuit, and is a division of thermal solutions provider GlacialTech. Instead of doing things the cheap way, GlacialPower has gone after the high end PSU market. It has taken a hint from the leaders and is advertising its PSU ratings at 45 degrees Celsius, in effect giving you the "real world" power rating.
