The Hitachi CinemaStar is an established family of hard disk drives with no less than five different models available. They are all targeted at consumer electronics (CE) applications, such as PVRs, DVRs and CCTV systems. Hence, they have a feature set that focuses on this segment : - Optimized to record multiple, simultaneous video streams, Hitachi SmoothStream technology supports the ATA*7 streaming command set, and SCT provides time-limited error recovery and thermal monitoring capabilities. Because IT data and video streams have different throughput demands, AV-Zoning allows the definition of various error recovery procedures for predefined ranges of data blocks or zones to enable the system to effectively deliver critical data and time-sensitive video content from a single drive. Other features that help tailor this drive for streaming video applications include Read Continuous mode, which helps manage error recovery for video streams, and Media Maintenance enhancements, preventing track wear-out from around-the-clock operation. - Leveraging eighth generation power management technology, as well as power-saving HiVERT innovations pioneered on Hitachi 2.5-inch notebook drives, this new CinemaStar hard drive provides up to 18% idle power savings over the previous model, delivering best-in-class power management and thermal emissions. - All CinemaStar products are enhanced with silent-seek acoustics to deliver bedroom-quiet operation, and the Hitachi patented load/unload ramp mechanism that helps prevent disk wear and protects the disk during non-operation. This review will be looking at one of Hitachi's latest 7200 RPM CinemaStar model - the 500 GB CinemaStar 7K1000.C hard disk drive. Let's take a look!

"Robust storage is starting to become a hot item. Just recently Cameron tested the A-DATA SH93, a water and shock proof external USB drive. Many years ago I was the first to test Corsair?s Flash Voyager and while testing I boiled the drive in water on my stove and then froze the USB thumb drive in the freezer. I can?t claim that I have ever ran into a situation where I found myself in below freezing temperatures for an extended period of time, or in a hot tub with my portable storage, but at least I am prepared for when the time comes. Today we are taking a look at the SimpleTOUGH from Hitachi, an external USB drive enclosure that is made to handle the abuse power users, rock climbers and friends over to play some Modern Warfare."

Hitachi has really come through in the hard disk market since taking over the department from IBM. So far the Hitachi drives have been top notch with no real reason to discredit them. Hitachi's current range of drives are extremely impressive. On the design side there is nothing spectacular about the drive, it's light in weight and looks well constructed. On the top of the drive there is a identification label with info on the drive including model numbers, spindle speed and capacity which is 250GB for this model we were sent.

The Plasma Television screen is one of the most exciting consumer electronics and Home Theater products to debut in the past decade. Plasma Screens are literally changing the shape of television, from the familiar CRT-type TV that has been around for 50 years, to a sleek, nearly flat display that can hang on a wall. Today we're going to review the Hitachi 50" Full HD1080 Ultravision Plasma HDTV (P50S601), one of the model from the product lineup introduced last fall.

Hitachi has come up with what looks to be one of the best ideas in the notebook storage market; an upgrade kit that includes a 2.5" Serial ATA hard disk which is what every new notebook along with some older ones on the market use. Designed to give you two hard disks in total, the new one is placed inside your notebook while the older one is installed into a USB powered 2.5" HDD enclosure and run through your USB ports; this giving you even more storage capacity.

Storage solutions for the desktop hard disk market are now really starting to take shape. Over the past ten years of PC technology hard disks have been stagnant while sizes have just slowly increased, we have been stuck with the same slow and clumsy interface. Today we have our hands on one of the largest capacity desktop drives available on the market. Hitachi has sent us their new Deskstar 7K1000 drive supporting a full terabyte of data. How will this drive perform? Let's go have a look.

It wasn't that long ago that Hitachi was the first the reach the 500GB single hard drive milestone, and with the release of the 7k1000, Hitachi retains the capacity crown, also becoming the first to pack 1000 gigabytes into a single drive. But it's not always about finishing first (ask any woman), the performance has to be there too. Join HardwareLogic as we throw the 7k1000 into our testbed and see if it performs as big as it's capacity.

With great image quality, multiple HD and SD component inputs and a motorized swiveling stand the P50S601 HDTV from Hitachi is one of the best HDTV sets that I have tested. A built-in ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuner combines digital and analog channels into one tuner. Hitachi also provides three customized settings for each input that allows you to match the picture to the viewing environment. This allows for a brighter picture during the day when the viewing environment tends to be brighter and a dimmer display at night when not as much brightness is needed.

The Deskstar 7K1000 represents a milestone for Hitachi and for the hard drive industry as a whole, as it is the first drive to offer a 1 terabyte capacity. However, Hitachi has not simply grabbed five 200GB platters and stuck them together to create a 1TB hard drive. Rather, there is much more to the Deskstar 7K1000, such as its Serial ATA II interface and the massive 32MB memory buffer. This is also the first desktop Hitachi drive to feature PMR technology (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording).

Few plasma brands have managed to combine budget prices with good performance levels as successfully as Hitachi. So it's no surprise that it's one of the 'big three' (along with Pioneer and Panasonic) currently involved in a major joint campaign to convince the public that when it comes to home cinema, plasma rather than LCD is the way to go. Shame, then, that Hitachi's latest plasma offering, the 50in P50T01U, doesn't do a better job of backing the pro-plasma arguments up.

Elsewhere, the 7K1000 has all the features you would expect from a modern hard drive; spindle speed is 7,200rpm, the interface is 3Gbps SATA-II, and it supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ). The onboard data buffer is a whopping 32MB and it even has a legacy Molex power connector - something the Seagate doesn't have - for those of us with ailing power supplies.

The Hitachi DeskStar 7K1000 1TB HDD uses the familiar 3.5" form factor and spins at 7,200 rpm. The drive uses the SATA 3.0 GB/s interface, though if your mainboard doesn't support that speed you can configure the drive to run at the older, slower SATA speed. Hitachi claims seek times of 8.5ms read and 9.2ms write and the drive uses perpendicular recording technology.

Everyone loves hybrids - no matter if it's the Toyota Prius or Hitachi's newest camcorders. One can easily see the benefit of a hybrid car that gets high mileage by using gas and electric motors. The pluses of a DVD camcorder combined with a hard disc drive (HDD) are not quite as obvious or Earth-friendly. Still, the idea of recording for 110 minutes in XTRA mode on an 8GB HDD and then burning that footage onto blank, 3-inch DVDs in the same device is pretty enticing. That last step - taking video off the hard drive - is one of the biggest issues facing HDD-based camcorders. So, did Hitachi create the magic bullet or did it fire a dud? Let's check it out.

The 32LD9700 we're looking at today sits at the top end of Hitachi's LCD range - a fact reflected right away in its pleasingly stark, strikingly well-constructed bodywork. It's also got the sort of connectivity that befits a flagship range, with highlights including twin HDMI support, a trio of Scarts, a PC port, component video input, plus some handy 'multimedia' provision in the form of a USB port for attaching digital cameras and an SD card slot for direct playback of digital photocards.
