If you are looking for a quiet high performance card, then the factory-overclocked iChill GTX 260 is certainly a great choice for you. Using Arctic Cooling's Accelero XXX cooler it emits less fan noise than most low-end cards, yet offers performance close to the GeForce GTX 280.

Inno3D's iChiLL 9800 GT looks to freeze out the competition by pre-overclocking the 9800 GT and offering an uprated cooler. We investigate whether it is successful.

Early last month Nvidia released the GeForce 9800 GTX which today stands as the fastest single GPU graphics card money can buy. However, after almost sixty days of its release and with an eventual appearance of next-generation cards from both ATI and Nvidia, few manufacturers seem to be making pronounced efforts on modifying or improving the original Nvidia reference design. That is until we received the iChiLL 9800 GTX Accelero Xtreme from Inno3D, which features a mammoth heatsink that is cooled by no less than three fans.

While this time around we're looking at another 8800GT with a stock cooler, this particular model from Inno3D is an OC model and comes with some decent clocks so it was considered worthwhile. Inno3D have gone for a bit of gold writing on the cooler to mention the model, brand and the fact that it's overclocked. The card looks great on a whole; there really is only so much you can do with a stock cooler though.

So how do you make an end of life product look like new again and more importantly how do you make it sell like hot cakes? Well you would do exactly what Nvidia has done with the GeForce 8800 GT: make it nearly as fast as your high-end product and sell it at half the price! For those holding out to see what the next generation ATI graphics cards are going to be like, you may as well find the 8800 GT too hard to resist and I am sure this is exactly what Nvidia is banking on, stealing a little thunder from whatever AMD has got to show us soon.

At the higher price, you only have to look at the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB's performance and measure that against its £165 asking price to realise that you'd be a mug to spend £140 on a GeForce 8600 GTS. Thankfully though, Inno3D's card isn't as expensive as other pre-overclocked 8600 GTSes and it actually comes in at a tempting price point if you're looking for an all-rounder.

The last time we saw a card from Inno3D we were extremely pleased with what exactly they had to offer. The iChill series has expanded since we looked at it last and the 8600 series has now entered it while a number of different coolers have also been added to the lineup. The particular card we're looking at today is an 8600GT which carries with it a very mean looking active cooling solution, with heat pipes and fins going everywhere we could be onto a clear winner.

Fancy a GeForce 8600 GTS card that's a little different from the reference norm? Inno3D may well have the answer with its XStriker3.

At around £140 to £150 (inc VAT) it's not too expensive and it's more powerful than the PowerColor we reviewed recently for around the same price. However, like the PowerColor, this card unfortunately isn't available to buy yet. This means that you've still got the chance to check out how the mid-range DirectX 10 parts perform before making your decision. Obviously though, they will almost definitely all include fans for the first few months and games designed to make use of the additional features on the new cards won't be out for a while yet either.
