There has been an increasing effort from manufacturers to cram 5.1 surround sound in a pair of cans ? usually made to look bulky, intimidating, geeky, and yet completely alluring to our gamer senses. Most provide great audio quality with exceptional sound placement to give off a virtual surround effect; yet they cannot quite come close to a real 5.1 surround sound experience that comes with a precisely tuned high-end speaker setup. With the Megalodon, Razer is hoping to take a step forward and blur the line a little bit, and in that drive has upped the specs to 7.1 to ?put sound in its place?. Yeah?about that?

"The computing industry, like many others, goes in trends and this is no different when discussing peripherals. What companies have begun to do is make peripherals that fill different roles. There are MMO mice and keyboards, ones for FPS and RPGs; there's also the simplified peripherals too. Today I'm taking a look at the Razer Abyssus Mirror Edition, a cut back, slimline mouse with high sensitivity. Let's see how it performs."

"There are some community projects like Lomoco for providing
configuration controls for Logitech mice under Linux, but this project
and others have not exactly moved along at a brisk pace even though mice
drivers are much simpler than say graphics cards or most other hardware
components. For Razer mice, there was RazerTool, a simple project to
provide some basic tweaking options for select Razer mice under Linux,
but that project has been defunct since early 2007. Even with the lack
of configuration tools or specialized drivers for Razer mice (or
keyboards and other peripherals) on Linux, we still end up falling in
love with their hardware as the build quality of their products are
phenomenal, the products we have tested have been designed very well,
and they really have just been excellent products. Back in February of
2007 we tested out the Razer DeathAdder, which was an example of a great
Razer product and received our Editor's Choice Award, but today we are
trying out the 1800 DPI version of their DeathAdder gaming mouse."

"Ever since the first appearance of gaming mice, Razer has without a doubt been one of the largest names. Ever since their first models
they've been pumping out successful models one after another, and this time their newcomer - the Imperator - came to our tests."

With the Lycosa Razer presents a pure gaming keyboard which
comes with quite a lot features. Rubber coated keys promise good grip
and high comfort, the background illumination gives the product a very
special look and the possibility to save and switch between different
profiles make the whole package complete.

The time when the Razer is mainly focused on input devices, long gone. Zu den dominanten Sparten zdhlt ldngst auch schon Razers Audio-Hardware, die mit Kopfhfrern, Headsets, Lautsprechern und Soundkarten ein umfassendes Angebot bereitstellt. Among the long-dominant sectors is already Razer's audio hardware, which provides with headphones, headsets, speakers, sound cards, and a comprehensive offering. Eins dass mit dem neuen Razer Megalodon nicht nur aktualisiert, sondern vor allem auch weiter ausgebaut wird. One update that with the new Razer Megalodon not only continue but also be expanded. Auf diese Weise vermeidet Razer eine Konkurrenz in den eigenen Reihen und bietet gleichzeitig dem Anwender eine zusdtzliche Alternative zu seinen bestehenden Headsets. In this way, Razer precludes compete in their own ranks while providing the user with an additional alternative to its existing headsets.

"And also according to Razer; their reputation for being a class leader in their field is seen in all of their products. Today we put that to the test as we look at their Megalodon 7.1 surround gaming headset product and see if it?s any good.
Headsets that claim to provide 5.1, let alone 7.1 surround sound from a couple of speakers is a novel idea and rather interesting, but let?s see what Razer has for us here."

One year ago Shawn reviewed the Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard, which bears a striking resemblance to the one I have in my hands, the new Arctosa. In case you were wondering where Razer came up with these names, both Lycosa and Arctosa are families of wolf spiders, just like the Tarantula that shares its name with Razer's original gaming keyboard. All of Razer's products are in fact named after predators, their headsets are all named for aquatic hunters, their mice are all snakes and their keyboards are spiders... I guess it's a Razer thing.

The Lachesis is a gaming mouse with a 4000DPI 3G laser sensor, up to 100 inches per second tracking, nine buttons, 1000Hz ultrapolling with 1ms response time, 32KB of onboard memory for your gaming profiles, and on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment. Razer names many of its products after dangerous creatures, and this gaming mouse is no different, the South American bushmaster (lachesis muta) is the largest pit viper in the world.
