This device is a storage solution that has more to offer than an external hard drive, but without all the bells and whistles of a NAS. The option to create several different RAID arrays is a welcome feature for home users and small businesses alike who can't afford to lose data. The bright LCD screen combined with a clear, concise manual makes configuring an array a quick and easy task, even for a novice.

You are probably like most people when they go on vacation and use a digital camera with a few memory cards. It would be great if you didn't need a computer all the time to constantly backup your photos. The MS1U from Sans Digital is billed as a digital photo bank and it does just that. It takes a laptop (IDE) hard drive and converts it into portable storage for your memory cards.

As readers of ASE Labs, you know that I have always said that it is very important to have proper backups and have redundant storage. While we have seen the MS2UTN+ from Sans Digital, this new model contains a LCD screen to easily setup and manage the unit. It is really amazing what a two line LCD can give you in terms of piece of mind.

ASE Labs has always explained the benefits of having redundant storage and backups. There are series of articles devoted to each technology. Sans Digital is a big player in RAID enclosures and their latest model, the MobileSTOR MS2UTN+ delivers USB2 and eSATA support to a 2 disk array of your choosing. This combines the best of both world for data backup and redundancy. It really is an excellent product.

QNAP is one of the many new companies which aim to satisfy the growing need for external storage solutions. In this product review, I will take a close look at their MobileSTOR MS2UT eSATA RAID direct attached storage (DAS) enclosure. This enclosure offers RAID-0 and RAID-1 capability, with high-speed transfers available up to 1.5Gbps through eSATA cable, or 480Mbps with USB 2.0.
