SteelSeries is perhaps one of the most well known mousepad brands. It all started about six years ago when they launched their Steelpad mousepad. This was one of the few aluminum mousepads available on the market and this got them a lot of attention. Over the years the firm introduced several other mousepads including glass, hard plastic and cloth mousepads. A few weeks ago I checked out the cloth SteelSeries QcK mousepad and in this review I'm taking a look at one of SteelSeries' hard plastic mousepads - the SteelSeries S&S

All of the past SteelSeries products that ThinkComputers has reviewed have all been geared towards the FPS gaming crowd. This time around the audience is different. The Steelkeys 6G Professional Gaming Keyboard was designed for hardcore RTS gamers. This isn't your fancy keyboard with macros or multimedia keys, but rather a keyboard that will be a near perfect atmosphere with quick keystrokes and limited disturbances for the hardcore gamer. Let's take a further look to see if SteelSeries has kept to their standards of professional gaming products.

It's been a long time since we've taken a look at mousepads. After all, whether you have an office workstation or gaming setup, it's all about the CPU, RAM, motherboard, and graphics card, right? But what about the components you actually physically need to interact with daily -- the keyboard, and more importantly, the mouse? Sure, many users will tell you how optical or laser mice don't need mousepads. However, it should be understood that while mousepads are not a minimum requirement for these mice to work properly, its function can be greatly enhanced by improving the tracking surface (No, it won't suddenly give you 20 headshots in a row, but it does make a difference) as well as the gliding surface the mouse sits on as you push the mouse across. Last year, only two mousepads over a dozen we've examined excelled as APH-worthy for a quality, high performance, ultimate mousing surface. That's the Func sUrface 1030 Archetype and the XTracPads Hybrid. This year, however, SteelSeries vowed to challenge the best with the SteelSeries SX. They are extremely confident with the 'really, really smooth' surface as they claim it, with lots of industry buzz and extremely high remarks regarding the SteelSeries SX. We are really excited to find out if it is really as good as everyone says it is!

In the end it comes down to one question: Are you prepared to pay for the best. At a hefty 49.95 Euro (US$70) this is not a product a casual user will be interested in. I personally would never spend that much on a mouse pad but I don't claim to be an avid gamer either. If you are looking for the best gaming pad money can buy, you've found it. If you are looking for good performance at an affordable price, keep looking.

Years ago most people used a ball mice, in most cases together with a crappy cloth mousepad that you got somewhere for free. Together with the rise of optical mice, plastic mousepads become more popular among computer enthusiasts and gamers because these pads generally offer much better tracking and last much longer. It was more than five years ago since I've last had a cloth mousepad in my hands when I got the opportunity to test Steel Series's QcK mousepad, a premium cloth mousepad with a non-slip rubber base.

SteelSeries has surely created a mousepad that has surpassed all of their other mousepad's. It can't be compared to any other professional gaming surface available today. The newly released Steelseries SX precision gaming mousepad is composed of fiber polished aluminum with anodized oxide coating, allowing for an uber smooth gaming surface for precise wrist action in all of your games. The SteelSeries SX was designed for the hardcore gamers who really want to experience a different feel to communicating with your computer.

I think SteelSeries can rest assured that the newest version of the SteelPad S&S will remain atop the heap. I have had nothing but good things to say about this pad since I have started this review. The SteelPad S&S hits on all the important points a gamer should look for: a large smooth surface that is comfortable. If you enjoy gaming or even get into some heavy graphic work, you owe it to yourself to give the SteelPad S&S a try. I can almost guarantee that you will be more than satisfied as I have been.

Like Razer, now that the SteelSeries brand is something that can be leveraged within the gaming community, they're branching out and offering more gaming related products. Today we'll be taking a look at one of those products, the SteelSeries 3H Gaming Headset. The 3H is actually only one of a number of different gaming headsets offered by SteelSeries, and aside from their in-ear model, it's their most compact and inexpensive offering to-date. Let's take a closer look and see if the 3H can compete in the crowded budget segment and offer good value for the money.

The SteelSeries SX gaming mouse pad is made from highly polished aluminum which gives this pad a completely new type of surface grip. In our testing we come to the conclusion that the pad is extremely accurate and great for fast paced gaming. The only drawback is the high price of almost $60.

The Steelpad 5L professional gaming mouse pad is an extraordinary mouse pad. The Steelpad 5L is not merely for professional gaming though, the pad handled every task from gaming , graphics, and office applications with no problems at all.

Although the SteelSound 5H v2 is clearly targeted at more hardcore gamers, it is also perfectly suited for the casual player who hops online every so often for a session of World of Warcraft, Counterstrike, or whatever other title the kids are playing these days. I'm not much of a PC gamer myself, but I can say without hesitation that this headset is one of the best I've ever seen. The construction is solid, yet surprisingly lightweight. Sound quality is excellent, noise isolation is great, and the added features are of great value.
