"Today for review I?ve got another NAS box, this one though is from Thecus and it?s their new N4200 model that features an Intel Dual Core Atom CPU and a nice 1 gig of ram. The N4200 has some other great features as well like the built-in battery backup system, along with dual displays on the front for monitoring system status and even for changing some of the settings without having to login to the admin section. The N4200 is fast, one of the fastest NAS boxes I?ve taken a look at, but it?s got plenty of other features going for it as well.. So read on to learn more? "

Thecus has spent a long time devising their NAS servers and these shows with the design of the N7700. It supports all of the major file systems including the Mac, Windows and Linux. The unit can take up to seven drives in RAID 0, 1, 5,6,10 or JBOD mode. The N7700 is available for a mere $1149, and is the top of the line of their consumer lineup. It is a fully functioning computer with a Core 2 Duo 4GB of memory and gives you plenty of room to install HDDs in various RAID configurations. The Dual DOMs allow the system to boot up after a power failure causes the first DOM to fail, an excellent feature. For those who want only quality and are not afraid of the price tag the Thecus N7700 is a solid Editors Choice Product.

"Testing NAS servers is a complicated and time consuming task. For the most part modern NAS products are computers in their own right with some using Intel Core2 Duo processors with 4GB of RAM. When writing a NAS review it is easy to focus on the hardware and capabilities, but often the software, applications and setup functionality take a back seat even though these functions are in many cases just as important as the hardware used. To help ease the strain on both the reader and the writer, today we are going to cover the latest firmware / software release from Thecus. In a couple of days we will also publish a similar article covering the QNAP firmware / software since these are the two companies that send us a sample every other month and also have such extensive software. We plan to keep these available as living documents with updates published throughout the coming years.

"Thecus brings a lot to the table with the N0503 Combo NAS. You have the choice of using up to five 2.5" drives or up to three 3.5" drives for storage, and the new, more polished AJAX-based web interface is a step in the right direction. All the familiar features are here too including the media server, print server, web server, and a myriad of other functions that are all customizable for your particular needs."

? Thecus is a company whose products I?ve reviewed quite a few times now. Their high end Network Access servers can go toe-to-toe with anything. It was two years ago that I reviewed the first version of the N5200. Since that time the N5200 has run virtually 24/7/365, only being shut down maybe a dozen times. Either when I have moved it to new locations, rearranged cables or firmware updates. It has also survived 2 separate UPS failures. The 5200?s drives are sitting at 15731 hours and counting. I have not had a single issue with the 5200 since its review.?

The N4100PRO is based on the AMD Geode LX800 Processor with 256MB memory which should make it reasonably fast. The drives easily screw in the bay and then simply slide into the SATA/POWER connector built on the logic board of the N4100PRO- no messy cables."

The Thecus N4100 Pro is a relatively low cost four bay NAS. It features basically all features the other models do and promises high performance. Where is the catch? We tested the N4100 to find out.

The N3200PRO 3-bay NAS enclosure is an upgraded version of the original N3200 and a couple steps down from the N5200B Pro that we reviewed last year. It still retains many of the features that made its predecessor so popular, but ups the ante with faster hardware, better power usage and targeted to home users. That faster hardware comes in the form of an AMD Geode processor, which still drives the same 3 SATA drive bays. This provides for 3TB or more of total storage, giving you a pretty bucket to pour all your data into.

The Thecus N4100PRO uses an AMD Geode LX800 processor and 256MB of DDR memory for powerful data-processing capabilities. The N4100PRO has the capacity for four 3.5" SATA hard disks for up to 4TB of storage! To keep data secure, the N4100PRO features various RAID modes, including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD. Managing your RAID array is easy with the N4100PRO's advanced RAID management features, including RAID expansion and RAID level migration. To top it off, the N4100PRO comes equipped with a big, bright LCM module, which displays useful status messages such as IP address, date and time, and RAID status, making it easy to keep an eye on the condition of the N4100PRO...
