Thermalright has never been one to be out done by anyone when it comes to air coolers. One of their newer coolers is not going to be out done with it comes to weight. The TRUE Copper is the heaviest cooler we have ever had in our labs here at PC. The new TRUE weighs in at a whooping 1900g. That is over four pounds of pure copper weighing down on your motherboard. Special precautions should be made in order to use this mammoth on a motherboard standing in a upward position, but this is not what we are concerned about. What we want to know today is it worth the $100 plus asking price many retailers are asking.

Thermalright set out to pack the performance of a 120mm cooler into a 90mm package. With the Optima-90I, it looks like they've done just that. The cooling is very good with the 90mm fan and the package is relatively compact. As always, the workmanship is outstanding the mounting is not too difficult, though a bit bothersome for AMD users.

Thermalright has undoubtedly created a legendary heatsink with their Ultra Extreme. I am pleased to say that their new TRUE Black 120 is no exception and has thoroughly impressed me. Its performance was second to none on our toasty Q6600 test platform. Not only did it best all sixteen other heatsinks we have tested, it did so by a significant margin.

This is just what Thermalright did with the IFX-14. The cooler consists of twin towers linked by a set of heat pipes. Now I am not going to give you all the features here in the introduction. But I will tell you the cooler does come with a little surprise. Something that no other cooler comes with. If you want to know what it is then you will have to continue reading.

So, do you NEED this heatsink? Should you rush out, and snap up the first one available? As much as I'm thinking Thermalright would love us to say yes to that, the answer is really no. For standard cooling needs, a regular old Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme will do the job just fine, and if you throw in, what, a $3 set of fan clips, an $8 tube of thermal grease, and a $12 fan, you're still running a surplus. Is that the point? Hardly. What this product is, is one of the best looking heatsinks that you can get a hold of, not to mention one of the best performing. When people see it through your case's window, not only will it say "I chose Thermalright", but it will also say "I spent a little extra, to get the best". It's a little something like I imagine the Voodoo 5 6000 was back in its time. You spend a little more, you get a little more, but hey, you'll enjoy it a lot more.

So what does it take to beat the Thermalright Ultra-120 when it comes to all out performance? Well an improved Ultra-120 in this case it is called the Ultra-120 Extreme. So in order to beat the best you have to make it better. Now I think this is Thermalright thinking and we are here today to see if this is true. Will the two extra heat pipes that were added to the original make enough of a difference to dethrone the king? We will take time to put the new cooler through some tests and see what happens.
