Aaah, storage. As far as I'm concerned, you can't have enough of it. Be it in a server or on the go, you can't really ever have too much hard drive space. Today we're taking the time to have a look at a hard drive caddie from a company called VOX. We will today have a look at how the VOX V1 goes up against another caddie we have with us and also against one of our Samsung 1TB drives that is already installed in our system. Before we get into that though, let's have a look at the package VOX has put together along with a closer look at the caddie itself.

Today we are looking at the VOX TV-R HDD Media Player/Recorder. The device allows you to record movies and TV shows from your TV to the VOX TV-R HDD Media Player/Recorder internal HDD. You can also copy files and images directly from camcorder and digital cameras. Once the DVD was playing all you do is hit record and the video is automatically stored to the VOX TV-R HDD Media Player/Recorder in AVI format. After you are done recording your video you can immediately play the recording back. There is a noticeable difference in the video quality between the DVD version and what the VOX TV-R HDD Media Player/Recorder records.

External hard drive enclosures are a dime a dozen... kind of. VOX's solution delivers similar features as the others, such as USB 2.0 and FireWire connections, along with some backup software. In the end though, what should be a killer offering proved to be a very mediocre one.

When browsing the shelves of your local B&M you will find there are several different sizes and brands to pick from. Some drives are small enough to fit in the front pocket of your shirt and there are other units that can house numerous drives. These types of unit can be a big as shoe box or two. Depending on your needs someone will have you covered. Besides storage size another major factor would be what brand of drive to buy. Seagate and Maxtor seem to be two of the more popular brands. Personal preference usually is the deciding factor in this case.
