Fortunately, since the PC Enclosure market is roughly organized into three segments; entry/OEM level, mid-range and performance/enthusiast, all you need to do to begin your case search, is to figure out which segment of the market fits your systems needs and zero your search down to that particular segment. Someone looking to spend between $25.00-$75.00 on their future system's enclosure need not waste their time exploring the expensive performance/enthusiast segment of the market, and so forth. Well, if part of your criteria is that you are on a budget or a first time builder, then usually the place to start is at the entry and budget mid-range levels. Once there, while parusing the current multitude of styles and designs, your eye would almost certainly be caught by the entry-to-mid-range NZXT offering: the ALPHA. The first time you see it, you'll think, "I bet that's what Darth Vader's desktop looks like." Today at Benchmark Reviews, we're going to find out if NZXT's latest in their Classic series line is just another....pretty face?

We've been privileged enough to review a fair portion of the NZXT case range, with the Lexa Blackline, Rouge, Hush and Duet all receiving solid results and accolades. Now I have another case from the gamer enclosure constructors; the NZXT Alpha. Sold under the tag-line of 'Simple yet powerful' it slots into the budget class case segment. Featuring tool-less drive mounting, steel chassis and GTX support, it should make for a good enclosure for your build.

NZXT is a company that is renowned for producing quality, performance-minded cases with a touch of class. I consider it a privilege to review their cases. Today, I get the chance with the Alpha Classic Series Steel Mid-tower chassis, which from this moment on will be called the Alpha. Let's get to it. Shall we?

Most of the cases on today's market are designed for standard components. Not a whole lot of cases can offer guaranteed support for large expansion cards like the 8800GTX, unlike the NXZT Alpha. This is the first case that I have seen that offers eSATA as an external port. Its sleek high-gloss black paint and custom drive bays will keep your case aesthetically pleasing. This steel mid-tower case will surely have you impressed. Let's take a further look to see what all this case has to offer.

NZXT's company objective is to "provide every gamer with a case that they can identify with." To this end NZXT offers two types of case designs, the more conservative "Classic" series, and the contemporary "Crafted" line. Today we look at the Alpha, one in the former category of case offerings from NZXT.
