AMD's 690 chipset doesn't stop turning heads. The way it was introduced, as a low-priced alternative to Intel, with budget trim and no enthusiast options, belittled its raucous performance. It looked like a stopgap, especially since AMD had little to do with its design and released it as a last foray before the new AMD could re-group. It's not likely that even ATI expected the chipset to be the thin edge of the wedge. 690's ripples keep on growing. As it turns out, people seem to like motherboards with complete multimedia support, great onboard graphics, insignificant power envelopes, unparalleled performance, and low prices. Gigabyte's GA-MA69GM-S2H is the best example of a 690G motherboard to-date. This motherboard is going to win an Editor's Choice award. And that's a tough one to get. Everything has to work just right: The device needs to be designed and constructed well, with options that defy predictions, the best layout, and the vaulted ability to please everyone, even enthusiasts.

The Gigabyte Ga-MA69GM-S2H is a board that is targeted to the HTPC market. It has a rich feature set for a micro board, and will make a great board for its intended purpose. The addition of HDMI should make setup and use with your HTPC and plasma or LCD a piece of cake!

Gigabyte's new GA-MA69GM-S2H board has HTPC written all over it, with no fewer than six possible video output types, optical Toslink output, and AMD's 690G chipset with Radeon X1250 IGP. In our review, we find more than a few reasons to recommend it to anyone who?s considering a new HTPC.

This board is one of those products that can either really be a beneficial item in your build or leave you wanting a bit more. I say this because if the motherboard is to be used in a Media Center or Home Theatre PC it is an outstanding product that is well worth looking into and is priced reasonably as well. It is small, has HDMI output for High-Def viewing, decent sound and embedded graphics for those who only game in a little way. As far as being a gamer oriented product the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H is mildly in that category, but no CrossFire support puts it in the low spectrum and onboard DX9 only graphics are considered in the same fashion.

Compared to that of the GeForce 6150 chipset, AMD has really got a winner - its ability to run HDMI as well as superior graphics core makes it a more ideal chipset for the K8, giving you a full AMD system with AMD CPU and AMD chipset. Today we are looking at the GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM motherboard designed with the AMD 690G chipset. So let us see how well it compares to the MSI based motherboard which we recently tested in our labs.
