The advent of the DVD and the ever increasing capacity of hard drives means our files have got larger over time. Not much more than a decade ago you'd have been unlikely to be in possession of a file that wouldn't fit on a floppy disk, in fact a great many games shipped on a single floppy. Today it almost seems pointless trying to make proper use of any portable storage medium that can't carry at least as much as a CD does.
