Anyone who has tinkered with computers for any amount of time will immediately know the name Ultra. With a number of products that cover case fans and lights, designer cases, DVD products, hard drive coolers, media drives, complete memory solutions, memory coolers and power supplies, these folks can provide you with a large selection of upgrade items. Today we will be taking a look at one of their system enclosures, the m998. It is a mid-tower design based around the ATX standard and has some features that may be a little different than what you have seen in the past.

Computer enthusiasts want their computer gear to look tough. Tough enough to go into your man-cave. Your case should steal the milk money from wimpy cases, and date their moms. Your case should look like it was made from the parts of lesser cases to form one uber-case. Your case should be a badass. What could possibly be more manly than the Humvee; one of the biggest and baddest of all-terrain vehicles? Would you be intrigued to learn of a PC case modelled after one of these marvels of mechanical engineering? Ultra thinks so, and they've created their m998 case to complement your masculinity.

One of the most challenging aspects of assembling a system is to hide the cables, making it look as clean and tidy as possible. Every enthusiast likes to have a good looking system and for modders this is considered a necessity. Ultra have always tried to satisfy modders, after all they are the company who first released modular PSUs. The m998 chassis we are looking at today is named after an old army vehicle and it is loaded with features, some of which are very useful.

Overall this is a nice case. There is plenty of room to work, and it has some nice features. Though the power bar is a cool feature I think there are some revisions that could be made to make it more compatible with the majority of power supplies out there. The cooling performance of the case was adequate. The two 120mm fans provided moved enough air through the case to keep the temperature inside 20 degrees of ambient. Considering we were running an over clocked e6650 with an 8800GTS video card that's pretty good.

Ultra makes fantastic products. Its cases, power supplies, fans, and such are top-notch and quite affordable. The Ultra m998 PC Case is no exception to this. It's one of the company's newest high-end enthusiast cases. It's solidly built and easy to install and modify-Ultra's exclusive Power Bar makes power cable management incredibly easy and simply fantastic. It's also the first case I've seen with a front eSATA port. ThinkComputers takes a look at the m998 in this review.

In terms of build quality, the m998 excels with its brushed aluminum finish and steel reinforced structure. Ultra has really put a lot of thought into the case as seen by the removable motherboard tray which includes part of the back panel, allowing you to install your expansion cards without struggling inside a cramped case. The interior is spacious and should satisfy pretty much everyone. One of my favorite features is the ability to attach casters to the bottom; every heavy case should have these!

Overall, Ultra Produts has made a very nice case with the M998. The case is easy to work with and for a midsize tower, and it was found to have plenty of room to accommodate aftermarket coolers, extended length expansion cards, and large body PSU units. Ultra provides black mounting hardware for the drive bay devices to aid the end user obtain the 'clean' look by keeping everything the same color. Once a system is installed into the case, it really does look slick as you can see in the picture above...

The Ultra Products m998 Mid-Tower ATX Case offers a number of innovative features that make it extremely appealing. In addition to things you may have seen before, like a removable motherboard tray, a matching paint job inside and out, and the use of casters on the bottom, it has another trick up its sleeve... The Power Bar power distribution system.

The Ultra m998 is so named for the exalted m998 HMMWV (better known as the Humvee): a lightweight, high performance, four wheel drive, air transportable & droppable, land mobility system. For comparison: the Ultra's m998 is constructed mainly of lightweight aluminum and plastic parts, sports four optional castors (wheels), a removable motherboard tray, the ability to remove every panel, and also boasts a roomy interior. In concept at least the m998 sounds akin to its name sake's description. Benchmark Reviews however wants to see if Ultra's m998 Aluminum Mid-Tower ATX Case ULT40069 can live up to this legendary reputation, so we've taken this baby for a test drive.

The Power Strip is a pretty cool feature that can come in quite handy. It really serves as a power HUB spreading out power to more peripherals efficiently. The users that will purchase this case will most likely want to install some form of light such as LEDs, Cold Cathode Tubing, or Neons. All of those extras will need power and that Power Strip will work great for quick connections. You won't have to go digging through your power supply wires to find power. This feature will hopefully show up in future revisions.

Perfection comes in many packages. There is the perfect sunset, the perfect moment and then there is the perfect case. Like beauty, perfection is all in perception. We're all too varied in tastes and experiences to ever agree 100% on anything. With that said, the Ultra m998 is about the closest you can come to a perfect case. During the review process, I found little middling things here and there that can be improved on, but none of them rate enough to knock it off its throne as the best case I've ever reviewed. Read on to find out how a reviewer became a fan boy.

Designated the m998 in recognition of the HMMWV "Humvee", Ultra compares its latest case offering to the ruggedness and versatility of the popular military vehicle. Can this aluminum mid-tower design really live up to its appointed name?

The Ultra m998 Mid-Tower Chassis is what Ultra intended it to be for, a Ultimate Gaming Chassis, it doesn't have fancy LCD's or fan controllers because it's meant to be carted around for LAN's and gaming events, and because gamers like to install their own fan controllers and LCD's. One thing that first caught my mind is the size of the chassis, its wider and longer then a standard ATX case. This makes its perfect for the gamers because of their need to use over sized power supplies, coolers and video cards.
