The Antec MX-1 is part of the new Veris brand and features a very unique design. You get eSATA and USB 2.0 connectiviy inside a solid plastic & aluminum enclosure. It is a bit larger than most enclosures, but features a very effective cooling design to keep the temperature of the installed SATA drive down to a minimum.

Eat or be eaten, that is one of the most well-known business phrases. With new external HDD enclosures from well known companies like Cooler Master, Thermaltake, and Enermax, it was only a matter of time before Antec stepped into the game. The MX-1 is Antec's first external hard drive enclosure, but is this first attempt poised to eat up the competition or fall victim to a late lunch?

The build quality is outstanding, the active cooling is both effective and quiet and the eSATA performance is excellent. Installation is very straightforward and easily accomplished due to the screw and latch design and the MX-1 has a great look with simple, elegant lines and the blue LED tucked away beneath the Antec logo on the front. USB 2.0 connectivity is also provided and cable lengths are generous.

Hard drive enclosures are becoming more and more popular as days progress. Why though? Because a lot of people today are on the move and need more storage than your average USB Flash Drive. The Antec MX-1 Actively Cooled Hard Drive Enclosure offers many features for the everyday user. Some features that we don't see a lot of on most other enclosures are an eSATA connection, on/off switch, the capability to stay cool, yet quiet at the same time.

This external hard drive enclosure from Antec promises a good balance between cooling and noise, with vibration damping installed inside; the hard drive can be accessed over USB 2.0 or eSATA and the MX-1 comes with the needed gear to get everything set up.

There are many forms of external storage devices; including flash drives, NAS devices and USB/Firewire. But for those like me that have tons of extra hard drives laying around you already have half the ingredients to make your own external drive. This is a form of back-up that I like myself due to the fact that I have several internal drives lying around that need a home. If this is sounds familiar to you Antec has an enclosure that may just interest you. The MX-1 is a multipurpose Hard Drive housing that provides cooling and portability all in one. Do we like the MX-1 and is it the one for you? Read the article and find out.
