When INTEL released the P35 chipset, many people were wondering what the big deal was. In all honesty, its a marginal upgrade form the immensely popular P965 chipset it replaced, at least in many instances. But for those who overclock, the P35 chipset provides a pretty significant upgrade over its predecessor. Those who had the pleasure of using one of Gigabyte's many P965, especially the P965-DQ6, will tell you that they are fantastic overclockers. So does that mean we can expect a similar performance boost from their P35 offering? The Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 motherboard was a pleasure to work with and if you're an enthusiast you'll love how Gigabyte places mostly everything in easy to reach locations. The large SilentPipe heatsink works very well and keeps the Intel P35 Express Northbridge, ICH9R Southbridge and MOSFETs nice and cool.

Gigabyte has jumped on the P35 bandwagon already with some of its new boards being available in Taiwan for over a week, and now fully available in Australia; Gigabyte has quite a few models planned. Today's test board from Gigabyte is the P35-DQ6 that is designed around the Dual Quad architecture that made the P965-DQ6 such a performer. Does the P35-DQ6 have what it takes to follow in those footsteps? Let us find out.

Just like with X975 and P965, Intel is appearing on the market with two basic versions of the chipset, "performance desktop X38" as opposed to X975, and "mainstream desktop P35" as opposed to P965. The first and basic novelty is concerning the manufacturing process, as the chipsets are being manufactured in 65nm which facilitate lesser consumption of energy and better overclockability. Is P35 chipset a worthy successor to previous generation?
