The ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard rings in at about $130 USD, which makes it substantially cheaper than many of the NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI motherboards on the market and even some of the nForce 650i motherboards. While this motherboard may be affordable, does it deliver upon the ASUS quality and innovations that enthusiasts have come to expect from their cutting edge products? Well, some of its many features include Intel Quad-Core support, NVIDIA SLI, and HD Azalia Audio.

In order to create a product to strike a balance between performance, price, and features, the amount of effort required could be quite a challenge. What's more, in the motherboard world, a whole new level exists beyond the standard 'requirements' of a successful product. Enthusiasts will demand overclocking capability and stability; while others will want the physical layout and design to be as optimal as possible when cables are being pulled around the case. In general, if a motherboard overclocks well, is stable, and priced aggressively, it is almost guaranteed to be a 100% successful product. NVIDIA's move into the targeted mainstream (priced) motherboard market with the 650i chipset is also big news in this industry. How will the implementation of NVIDIA's 650i chipset into Asus' P5N-E SLI motherboard prove a point right here? We'll have to see what Asus, the largest motherboard manufacturer in the world, has in store for us today.

ASUS is a brand known for quality and excellence in all of their products. With the launch of NVIDIA's 680i chipset ASUS presented enthusiasts with the Strike Extreme board with the price tag of around $400. This price tag made it very unreasonable for most consumers out there. Because ASUS knows everyone is not made of money they released the P5N-E SLI board, which uses the less expensive 650i chipset. This is a very great option for consumers who want to SLI support on the Core 2 Duo platform. So let's take a look at this budget board from ASUS.

One of the first Nvidia 650i enabled motherboards came from ASUS. The P5N-E SLI offers a low cost solution to the masses that want to build either a gaming rig or overclocking powerhouse on a tight budget. With the support of SLI, ample voltage selections and ram adjustment, you get everything you will find in the P5N32-E SLI except for dual 16x PCI-e bandwidth and super huge copper cooling sinks.

The P5N-E SLI is an impressive motherboard, offering the very best performance for the LGA775 platform along with all the essential features. The P5N-E SLI costs just $140, making it roughly $130 cheaper than the cheapest ASUS 680i SLI board (P5N32-E SLI), which we also used through our performance comparison tests.
