ASUS has been one of the leading manufacturers of motherboards for a number of years, and is the preferred board of the VH staff. The motherboard under the scope this time around is the P5N32-E SLI Plus, which uses the 650i chipset - a lesser version of the 680i which means a lower retail price. Although this is a newer motherboard using a less powerful chipset, they did make some changes to it and got dual x16 PCI-E SLI support. Another cool feature is the Stack Cool design which helps pull heat away from the components around the CPU. Another heat reducing feature are the heatpipes that cover each of the chipset chips separately. With so many features let's get on with the review and see how things work out.

The motherboard itself is a breeze to work with, the documentation is spot on, and the silent chipset cooling system is a nice touch. As you saw, the Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus motherboard was very quick in all the benchmarks PCSTATS tossed its way. If you primarily use your computer for workstation office tasks or 2D applications then the P5N32-E SLI Plus is definitely overkill. While it's one of the fastest motherboards PCSTATS has tested, you are not going to notice the difference between this motherboard and an entry level board when working in Microsoft Word.

As a less expensive alternative to the nForce 680i SLI boards, the P5N32-E SLI Plus board is a good choice for the gamer wanting SLI on their motherboard without a large price tag. Performance-wise the board performs near on-par with the nForce 680i SLI board from EVGA. Feature-wise, the board has nearly every feature that the nForce 680i board would have on it.

Whilst Asus has created a confusing range of mid-high end motherboards with slight variations, the P5N32-E SLI Plus appears to have hit the nail pretty much on the head. It still has the essential features needed for overclocking and stability, while still offering a decent I/O feature set at a price that's not going to mean selling your lungs. We can't argue with overclocking near to what the Striker Extreme is capable of for half the price. This makes the Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus a definite consideration for your next Core 2 upgrade.

ASUS has a brand new entry into the motherboard market with the P5N32-E SLI Plus. Designed to be more robust with 100% solid capacitors, this new nForce 680i SLI entry may just be the one you've been holding out for.
