With systems with multiple video cards requiring more power everyday, 1,000 W power supplies are becoming very common. OCZ has released a new 1,000 W product in the market, ProXStream 1000 W, targeted to power-hungry consumers that are willing to put three or four high-end video cards (this unit has four six-pin VGA power connectors) and several hard disk drives inside their systems. What is really different about this power supply compared to other 1,000-watt units around is it uses a small form factor, being at the same size of any standard ATX power supply, due to its interesting internal design using two printed circuit boards stacked. We completely disassembled this new unit from OCZ to see how it looks like inside and what design and components were used, plus we put it on our load tester to see whether it can deliver its rate 1,000 W or not.

Extreme gamers and hardware enthusiasts are demanding more power from their machines. Quad-core CPUs and multi-GPU setups make for extreme gaming (and extreme heat), and require a solid power supply that can deliver near-nuclear energy for today's demanding number-crunchers. There are several 1000 Watt power supply units available today to meet the growing need for this extreme hardware. As Uncle Ben said, "with great power comes great responsibility", so you should only trust your expensive components to quality name-brand power supplies. One of the best values you can get today comes from OCZ's ProXstream 1000W power supply, which is one of the most inexpensive Kilowatt units you can buy today, but has the quality innards that let you sleep well at night.

1000W power supplies are all over the place now so of course we would see one from OCZ. OCZ power supplies from the ModXStream and GameXStream series have been very popular with consumers. Today we will be looking at a new series from OCZ the ProXStream. The ProXStream has one of the smallest form factors of a 1000W power supply that I have seen and has an industry-leading 3 year warranty. I have never actually checked out an OCZ power supply before so we will see how it stacks up against other 1000W power supplies that we have tested.

The OCZ ProXstream 1000W Power Supply not only looks nice and has a great warranty, but it also performs just fantastic. The rails on the unit hold up under load whether at default settings or overclocked. There was not one hick-up at all. You will not have any issues supplying enough power to your system with this unit. The unit also comes with enough connectors (and power) to run an SLi setup and more (it comes with four PCIe connectors)....

OCZ Technology has been manufacturing enthusiast quality memory for many years, and they have recently expanded their presence in other enthusiast markets. Their previous power supplies have generally been met with high praise in reviews, and they have now returned with a 1000W unit of their own, the ProXStream.

For quite some time now, OCZ has rejoiced us with excellent PSU's that lived up to the enthusiast's demands. Let's have a look now if the latest sibling from their PSU stable can fulfill our ever growing hunger for power, and if it can better some of the other units that are currently on the market.

Fast forward more than half a decade and you will see that the business plan of OCZ hasn't changed much. While the pre-overclocked components aren't their bread and butter anymore, they still create a product line that is specifically aimed toward the enthusiast crowd. They have expanded their lineup to include such items as high-performance memory, flash media, video boards and power supplies, just to name a few of the new items. This brings us to today's article, the ProXStream 1000 power supply. As the name implies, it is rated at a whopping 1000 watts of power and reportedly has some features that OCZ feels will set it apart from the other guys. So relax a bit as we delve deeper into the latest high-end PSU from OCZ. While past accomplishments are nice, it won't mean anything for this piece. We'll run this thing through the gauntlet and see how it performs.

OCZ's ProXStream is an extremely capable power supply that offers up to 1000 Watts of output. As you would expect it comes with four PCI-E power connectors and is CrossFire/SLI ready. In our testing we come to the conclusion that this PSU will be able to power any system you could think of while still maintaining stable output voltages at all times.

OCZ has a solid performer here. Plenty of solid, stable power will satisfy even the most hardware-laden system, while the quad SLI connectors are a welcome addition for a top-level rig. Add in sleeved cables, a casing no bigger than a lower wattage PSU, and a good price point for the power, and you've got a definite winner in the PSU battles.

This power supply isn't meant for everybody, it is aimed at those who truly demand performance at any cost after all, those are the ones who run enough fans that their computer system needs to be chained down. Those who are willing to sacrifice anything and everything to squeeze out every drop of performance - meet your future power supply.
