I'm going to do away with any suspense and just tell you that it performs in the top 10 on both AMD and Intel test platforms. The 3RSystem Iceage 120 heatsink FrostyTech is reviewing today is equipped with four exposed copper heatpipes at its base, vibration absorbing foam pads behind the fan, a 120mm low speed fan and a fan speed controller. At the other end of the 3RSystem Iceage 120 heatsink is where all the fun stuff happens. Swaged into an aluminum block are four 6mm diameter copper heatpipes which make direct contact with the CPU, so the conduction path is about as direct as it gets.

Rarely do we see a huge innovation in CPU cooler design. I think that last big thing was heatpipes and those are in tons of CPU coolers now. Today we will be looking at the iCEAGE CPU cooler from 3RSYSTEM. It may look like your standard CPU cooler, but it features Direct Touch Heatpipe (DTH) technology. Instead of having heatpipes go into a heatsink base the heatpipes make up the base of the cooler. We will see how well this technology works and if it will make CPU coolers lighter in the future.

It is big and it is cool - It's the iCEAGE from 3RSystem. With a 120 mm fan and new heatpipe technology that has the heatpipes as part of the contact base it sure does look promising. Today we will put the iCEAGE to the test and see if it can live up to its name. We'll take a closer look at the Direct Touch Heatpipe design, and see if it does make a difference or not.
